On Memorable Last Calls
C'mon, #6, that's your answer? DULL DULL DULL. They asked because they wanted a story about a strange bearded dude who hadn't slept in 36 hours being carried out the door without any pants or keys while yelling about his wingdangdoodle.

On The League of Ordinary Ladies: Short Dates
@sniffadee Man, that final story makes up for all the previous ones. The Messiah! Ah!
I have been on exactly one date that I would actually qualify as a date, in which I was explicitly asked out and we went and did XYZ. We went and saw Once (which was wonderful), had pizza at Pizza My Heart (I had clams on mine!) and then we went back to his dorm room and watched Serenity, and we smooched, and I went back to my dorm room late. It was actually pretty great, even though he turned out to be a joik. All other dude-related stuff has been group-of-friends-hanging-out or, once, visiting-together-after-we-had-been-online-dating-for-months where I ended up with a second-degree sunburn on my leg that blistered and smelled like wet dogs.
My dad took a girl on a first date to see Deliverance, which...makes for a great story, at least.

On Some Options for Officiating a Wedding
@The Lady of Shalott Wait, you got the bridal salon job??? I've been in and out of Hairpin news lately, so I'm sorry if this is old news, but yayyyyyyy!
I think whatever people want to do at their weddings is great, and I don't want to neg on anybody for what's important to them--like, I'm a nontraditional person, but if a traditional wedding is important to someone else, whatever! I'm very "whatever" about most things, which is a great firm stance to have, I know.

On Look, We're Gonna Talk About the Gatsby Trailer Now
@TheLetterL Aw, see, I could do that for four million years. Meanings! Representations! Allegory! It's all just bullshit anyway and I love it, especially if you make a really tenuous, out-there connection and back it up as best you can. Which is why I was a Lit major. *cough*

On Galifianakis as Ignatius?
@Burly-Q Equal Rites is the...third book in the series, I think? Which, I started at the beginning and was fine plowing forward, but if you want to start with a more solid one, maybe go with Wyrd Sisters. It depends on whether strength of the novel is more important to you, or book order. (I am a stickler for book order so I am working my way through chronologically.)

On Wedding Ugg Has Life of Its Own
Also: this is why ambiguity, subject/verb agreement, fixing dangling modifiers, and general sensicality in ad copy (and in writing in general) is so important. Haunted Shoes indeed, Edith.

On Some Options for Officiating a Wedding
@The Lady of Shalott YESSSSS. I know it's weird that I'm so excited, but I will be the first one to admit that, like so many other Americans/people around the world, I love the spectacle of people at their worst (wedding planning, drunken belligerent weirdos, etc.) when I'm not the one involved. So I thank you for your service in reporting back to us so that we can gawk.
