On Quick Cocktails to Sneak Past Your Family

@Jengraf_80 Yes! We can happily drink Temples of Doom as we grow old and have liver transplants together!

On Quick Cocktails to Sneak Past Your Family

Oh, The Hairpin, you know me too well. I do the Shirley Temple thing, but I add a shot of vanilla vodka and half a shot of cherry vodka. it's absolutely lethal. I call it the Temple of Doom.

On Pain-Proof: Becoming the Lady Aye

This is just incredible. I loved this piece, and I also now totally want to bust a window and lay on the shards.

On How Do You Know When It's Time to Move?

@Ms. Take I'm waving from uptown (my office) and midtown (my house)!

On How Do You Know When It's Time to Move?

@Decca Most people do say it All-bany, but I actually like the Al-bany pronunciation. There's an Albany dialect discussion going on at All Over Albany that might clear it up (or make it murkier): http://alloveralbany.com/archive/2011/11/16/an-albany-dialect. Enjoy!

@Ms. Take Seriously? Are you on The Twitter? I'm so excited someone else from Albany is a Pinner!

On How Do You Know When It's Time to Move?

@wee_ramekin In this situation, Jeff is the cheese. My friend found a lovely drummer for a death-metal band. Jeff was such an ass that he deserves to be the cheese forever and ever.

On How Do You Know When It's Time to Move?

Oh god, that's Albany. People sometimes call it Smallbany because of stuff like this. True story: I met my husband because he was dating one of my friends (it was all very above-board, though). My friend was, at the time, dating a bassist named Joe (and a programmer named Jeff--love my friend but GIRL GETS AROUND). My husband and I now live next to Joe. And the cheese stands alone.

On A Guide to Natural Sleep Aids

@swxnw Me too! I had one of the most memorably weird nightmares of my life after taking melatonin for a few nights. And yes, heart palpitations, too, although my doctor told me that if you're taking birth control, a number of chemicals can cause heart palpitations when they interact with the hormones.

On A Guide to Natural Sleep Aids

@cosmia Don't waste your money! I bought them for a long plane trip once, and they just made me really drowsy, but paradoxically unable to fall asleep. I'm blaming the caffeine from the chocolate fighting with the melatonin. They ARE pretty tasty, though--like vegan brownies, all dense and extra-cocoa-y.
