Studying for finals and distracting myself with the internet. All day.
@magnowlia I was just coming down here to shout Harold and Maude!!! True justice would be Old Lady/ Former Political Activist, however.
@Interim Thank you so much for this comment. I've been attempting to put something like this to words all day, but you've done it much better than I could. This whole idea that racial critiques of "feminist" artists or writers are just hurting the "movement" by "pitting factions against each other" looks to me like an attempt to silence non-mainstream voices. As someone alluded to above, if your idea of feminism cannot withstand intersectional critique, maybe you're doing it wrong.
There was never anyone who was better at this than you, Bobby Finger.
And now I'm crying in the waiting area of les schwab. This was perfect.
Only a one-hour time difference, for about a year. We broke up because he was an asshole, not because of the distance.
@Aspiriationally Natalie That article really gets at our fucked up national discourse about health. Her basic point seems to be "only fat people who don't eat organic get sick." It's easy to say that healthcare shouldn't be available to everyone if people only need it because of their own bad choices.
@mistersister I have paid for my own health insurance for 8 years. I realize there are groups of people who are in an income bracket where they don't qualify for subsidies, can't afford insurance, don't qualify for an exemption, and don't receive insurance from work. I just think many people think they are in this situation when they are actually not because they aren't yet aware of all their options.
@mistersister Can't afford it even through medicaid and government subsidies? Have you checked out the healthcare exchange?
@sydwi I ALSO LOVE THIS BOOK. I once wrote a long ode to it for a local paper (which was not nearly as well-written as this one) and Ruth Doan MacDougall wrote me personally to thank me. She even quoted me in the marketing for The Husband Bench. It was the greatest moment in my short-lived writing career.
@Miss Maszkerádi Hmm, I guess I should have made it clearer that this wasn't some insurmountable relationship problem, just something that came up that I wanted an outside perspective on. Like "tramp stamp" isn't a huge deal to me, but I don't like it when anyone around me is saying things that offend me, and I feel like it's worth it to explain why and not just roll my eyes. I wasn't posing this question as "an excuse to get out," I was just looking to see if anyone had resources they've used in a situation like this. Sorry if this sounds defensive, but I guess I take a little offense at being told my relationship must not be fulfilling by someone who doesn't know me.
@everyone Thanks for your thoughtful responses. You may be right that this isn't a problem that can just be solved by the "right book" or insightful website. I wish that all issues could be solved that way.
