@Exene Yes. Have a very specific pick up plan, and tell someone (or several someones) your route. If it's not a well-traveled trail, also seriously consider a satellite phone, GPS tracker of some kind, or some sort of communication device that you can use in an emergency. It seems ridiculous, but I know two different people whose lives were probably saved by said devices (one's appendix burst, and the other lost the trail and hiked deep into absolute nowhere with very few supplies).
