On Opening Lines of Emily Dickinson Poems Not to Be Used as Pickup Lines

More like "You'd better find your socks and go home" lines.

Except for "I know some lonely houses off the road". (There's soda pop and the dancing is free.) Hot.

On Let This Champagne Bottle Explain How 75% of Men Come Within 3 Minutes

@Blushingflwr
If memory serves, I believe it has been established that the three-minute figure originated as a piece of deliberate disinformation. Some ten-minute dudes fabricated it so they would seem virile by comparison.

On My Brother, My Mother, and a Call Girl

Having some trouble imagining the Hairpin article in which someone tells the story of a father who hired someone to have first and only sexual congress with his disabled daughter (and yeah, without asking the daughter first). Neither easy nor pleasant to imagine this.

On Get It, Girl

@muralgirl
Sorry, I was way off on a tangent, wasn't talking about Tiresias but about people who tell you what "the ancient Greeks" thought. In the end, there are always period specialists to blame for statements like that, even if the article linked is not by one.

(For what it's worth, as for "the myth" being in Hesiod, it's not really. It's lots of places in bits, as myths are; the version of it that has the quote about the proportions of sexual enjoyment between man and woman comes from a long poem now lost, a handful of lines of which are quoted in extant later authors, who attribute it to Hesiod. Nobody much now thinks this attribution is plausible.)
