On Amusingly Horrible Things Bosses Have Said: The Bracket

@vodkasaurus Oh God, I am so sorry.
My brother was at work when our grandfather died, so I called to tell him. He told his boss he needed to go home. Boss' response? "Why? You won't be any use at home and anyway, men don't cry! Grow a pair and finish your shift."

On You Have One New Death

I am so sorry for your loss.
I found out about the death of a friend via a frantic text from someone else who saw it on Facebook. The worst part was getting a text from my dead friend's phone two days after the fact. Death and grief are already such surreal, disorienting experiences, never mind the disconnect of relying on the internet for communication, makes it that much harder to process.

On Bad Irene "Jokes"

I feel so much better about my hurricane-themed playlist after reading all of these.
Except for the part where Irene's headed north to where people actually have to worry about hurricanes (I'm from Florida, storms are nbd). :/

On I'll Have What That Character's Having: Foods We Want to Try

I read through all the comments and cannot believe no one has mentioned that there will be a Be Our Guest restaurant at Disney World in the not so distant future. Oh Yes.

I really hope they have the grey stuff, and that it is indeed delicious. Also, dancing food.

On I'll Have What That Character's Having: Foods We Want to Try

@harumph I love Nat so much. Especially when he brings Prudence to testify and saves the day. *swoon*

On Fantasies, Photography, and "My Best Friend's Boyfriend"

@Lisa Frank A big part of my being able to cope is that it comes in small-ish doses.
When things were going well between them, I just seethed quietly. It's the rest of the time that's driven me up the wall, but we've been best friends since elementary school and I refuse to throw that away just because of her horrible ex-(for now, anyway)boyfriend.
Having someone (my mom) to vent to has also been extremely helpful.

On Fantasies, Photography, and "My Best Friend's Boyfriend"

Ugh, I could be LW #1, except it has been going on FIVE. YEARS.
The best advice I can give is to be patient and listen if you really love/care about your friend and want to maintain the friendship. Voice your opinions and concerns but not in an attacking way. Instead of saying, "Yeah, he's a douchebag", say "the things he's doing are kinda douche-y, and you shouldn't have to put up with them".
Much as I would love to be honest (and I tried in the beginning), my friend shuts down with that approach, so it's better to let her figure it out on her own, with the occasional poke or prod from you.

On Happy Hour: Let's French

Oh, Skip It. Does no one else remember the uncomfortable ankle chafing or were my neighbor and I overly zealous in our skipping?

On Let's Just All Talk About the Things That Bug Us About Harry Potter

@orlyowl He made raspy/hissy sounds in imitation of Harry until it worked to open the Chamber.

On Beauty Q&A: Plane Face, Glasses, and the Home Pedicure

@dracula's ghost I needed you to know that one of those likes is from me and that I love you because cold baths are THE BEST!
Anyone who says otherwise is really missing out.
