On 18 Brides in a Year

@hallelujah I really wanted to give my son my last name, since we have planned on having two kids and each getting one name, but I knew my in laws would flip and they already don't love me terribly. So he has my husband's, and I'm just hoping we can manage another kid (props if it's a girl, because symmetry).

I hate hate the name change issue, it stresses me out so much. I couldn't possibly see changing mine, it just felt wrong, but it's been an unending headache I don't see ever being less of a hassle. So either feel wrong or like I gave in for the rest of my life, or keep dealing with it forever.

On Women In Sports: Fight the Power Outage

As someone from the Bay Area who hangs out on an SB Nation site...they both still said some dumbass things and Bruce's "position" is not one that needed defending. But I guess Neyer's gotten a lot of clicks out of this.

On "The truth is, the ten or twenty minutes I was somebody’s mother were black magic": Ariel Levy's "Thanksgiving in Mongolia"

@GEEKitty This story is difficult to read, but addresses some of that.

Read it, but do your pregnant friends a favor and tell them not to; when I was pregnant it's the kind of thing that would have haunted me with superstitious worry. For all our civilization and science pregnancy is still such a fraught and mysterious time, it's easy to go to a kind of dark, primitive place in your mind during it because of the total lack of control.

Also, thank god this was not posted somewhere with comments, because they would have been just awful.

@Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that) I'm a big baseball fan but all the teams I like are out now so we're just kind of rooting against people. The Tigers were the last team I had good feelings about and they're probably about to lose tomorrow.

@katie Fans of every team but one. ;) Sorry, we are constitutionally unable to like Puig up here.

@nina! Good luck in DC, my friend moved there recently and I know it's tough. Maybe look for something that's just acceptable for the short term and keep looking for the perfect place?

@stonefruit hey, I think you were going to email me last week, but I never got anything? Sorry it's taken me so long to mention it, the baby is very preoccupying.

And ugh, so glad I don't have to take Amtrak to Richmond and BART to Montgomery anymore, the strike would have made my commute/working impossible.
