On Sleep Habits, Finding a Therapist, and Men Who "Make an Effort"
@heyits I've heard Dan Savage give the same advice. Something along the lines of saying to the person, "Look, I love you but you know how I feel about your boyfriend, and I don't want to talk about him with you anymore. When you're ready to leave him I'll be here to help. Until then, don't call me about it."

On Ask a Clean Person: Laundry Basics
@hideously This probably doesn't apply to you, but just wanted to leave it here for other people with mysterious orange stain issues: my sister was getting these on ALL of her shirts, and eventually she figured out it was from a cheap Urban Outfitters dangly necklace that would leave a residue on her clothing whenever it came into contact with moisture or something. So mind your accessories...?

On Beauty Q&A: Streaky Polish, Cardigan Season, and Drinks for a Lady
@schadenfraulein I just did a quick check on Pinterest and a bunch of Old Navy options popped up for cheap, weirdly.

On Single Dads, Aging, and Acquaintansex
@heb A hundred times, yes. Sure, 50 is too young to die. But it happens! Life doesn't follow a script. That doesn't mean you have to worry about it constantly, but if you have the talk you'll probably worry less since you've done what you can do.

@S. Elizabeth Well... I guess "breathe" is always good advice, but I don't think having an end of life discussion is a waste of energy. (Nor is it a "death panel," but that's a complaint for another day!) I'm 27, and I just lost my mother to cancer. She was 59. And I'm not saying it to freak anyone out, but you know, when you become aware that you have a very limited amount of time with someone, the last thing you want to do is waste that time going through the stack of credit cards in her desk drawer.
I think parents, especially relatively young ones, want to keep parenting and shielding you from the nasty stuff in life, even when they could use your help. So starting a "how can I help you?" conversation could be a good thing.

On What It's Like to Get a Biopsy
@littlebopeepshow I'd also like to chime in with empathy for Jane, but also with a little bit of hope. I've had a lumpectomy and 5 additional breast biopsies so far (yipes!); all my surgeons/radiologists have been wonderful, the scars I have are barely visible (I got the areola incision), my pain has been minimal, and all things considered I'm very un-traumatized. I'm not thrilled that my body appears to be a tumor-making machine, of course, and I'm REALLY not thrilled that my various docs don't have a better idea of why this is happening, but the procedures themselves have gone very smoothly. Hang in there, hairpinners.

On Friday Bargain Bin: What to Do With Your Allowance This Week
@NeverOddOrEven Might be great with a skirt, though. I feel like I have tons and tons of sweaters that are just too long to be paired with skirts.
