On I'm Changing My Name, Again

Whilst filing for our marriage license, I mentioned to my now-husband that I was thinking of taking his name to strengthen our immigration case (he's foreign, so it's a big convincing process).
He immediately objected on the basis of me having an awesome last name, first/last combo, feminist principle, and also that with my first (Shilo) and his last (O'Connor) that it's just too many hard O sounds in one place.

I love that guy.

On Beauty Q&A: What to Wear, What to Wear, What to Wear, and Blackheads

@KatieWK I live in NYC and seemingly everything on Modcloth is available for sale here for no more than $17.99 in the legions of clubwear stores on Broadway between 14th and Canal. I own a top I saw on there for $46.00 that I bought for $12.99.

If a shop on Broadway in NYC is selling it cheaper (they have rent! crazy rent!) then you KNOW it's overpriced!

On Ask a Clean Person: Smelly, Scuffy, Dirty Shoes

I went to a foot doctor for some gait issues and asked him about sweat/stink prevention measures since I basically live in ballet flats.

For stink his reccomendation was surprising but also a little duh-worthy. He recommended I use men's aerosol deoderant/anti-perspirant on my feet before putting my shoes on. That's it. No fancy foot products/liners/powders or other bits of overpriced magic, just a regular 'ole can of Arrid from the drugstore.

Works like a charm.

Also - I figured out the trick to wearing socklets without looking like an idiot. Since it's difficult to explain, but easy to illustrate, check out a blog post that I wrote about it here: http://www.yikesmachine.com/2010/10/how-to-wear-dress-shoe-socklets/
