On Wash Your Clothes, You Filthy Animals

Ahhhh now I'm feeling very uncomfortable wearing my new work pants I excitedly bought from Gap and am just now wearing COMPLETELY STRAIGHT FROM THE BAG, CUT THE TAGS OFF WHILE I WAS WEARING THEM.

They have to be pretty clean, right? They have that strong starchy crease right down the front like I ironed them. Just let me live the lie.

On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With NPR's Linda Holmes

@rallisaurus You're going to the live taping? Ooooh jealous.

One thing I've noticed over time with PCHH is that they keep getting better with tightening the conversation and keeping topics moving, while keeping the same "you just walked into this conversation" feel. And I imagine that's fairly difficult. For a while, I felt like PCHH and the Culture Gabfest were at opposite ends of the spectrum with that.

On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With NPR's Linda Holmes

Right now, I have nothing more insightful than "Ah! Ah! Linda Holmes! On the Hairpin! My favorites! Together!"

Will hopefully return with something more insightful after reading....

On Nice to Meet You, Internet

Right now, I'm into this dude continuing to open his mouth so I can laugh and laugh and laugh. And then roll my eyes. And then laugh some more.

Also, I'm really into my new blazer today (though the phrase "interior design" makes me scowl). Bryan would be so confused.

On Two People Feel Like They've Got the Answer Where Kids & Dogs Are Concerned

@catwithglasses replying to my own comment to add a big thanks to Jia for the tags and the alt-text. Clearly I'm thinking about these issues already but random articles on the internet DO NOT HELP the anxiety. (hear me, slate?!)

On Two People Feel Like They've Got the Answer Where Kids & Dogs Are Concerned

@Better to Eat You With Ahh I just heard another terrible story about a baby and a St. Bernard. Though this one was about a St. Bernard who generally had lots of children hanging all over it and really wasn't ok with it. But parents/owners didn't notice or care until it all blew up.

It still made nervous, as I have a large clumsy beast of a dog and am planning on kids relatively soonish (ideally, once big dog is fully out of puppy/adolescence). But the ultimate take away is that dogs are not toys and that I really can't let a tiny child get up all in the dog's face like I do. She's generally sweet and calm around kids but she's still an animal.

On Ask a Jeweler: Shady Platinum, Sizing Up Your Rings, and the Case For Sapphires

@iceberg I wear mine sometimes, more now after I got it re-sized to fit on my right ring finger. It's a garnet and tourmaline ring (which are indeed nice and sparkly and available in lots of colors like the author said) but the arrangement is such that I can't wear it on top of my wedding ring. Plus, I like the minimalist just-the-band look. So I wear my wedding band 95% of the time (it's usually off when I'm working out/sleeping/cleaning) and my engagement ring maybe 25% of the time, for going out.

But I love it-- my husband worked with a local jeweler to design it and it's totally unique and not something I would have thought of on my own.
