Secretly a pony
So many potentially dramatic filmic/literary moments ruined.
"She walked past where they'd agreed to meet on the bridge - he wasn't there. So she just kept on walking. And then she texted him demanding to know where the hell he was."
I find the concept of giving something up temporarily really annoying. It will just make you slightly more miserable for no reason (while you complain about it to everyone else), and fail to change your long-term habits. I have a lot of respect for people like my friend who's given up alcohol long-term, which is extremely hard to do, especially in the UK where the culture is so heavily boozy.
However, giving it up for 30 days is just for smuggery/bragging rights. I probably won't drink for 90% of the days of this month but I'm not making it into a weird moralistic issue of 'cheating' and 'control' and self-denial.
Yes! I did my dissertation on him and read a couple of biographies.
It was really interesting to see how many of Carver's stories wre actually drawn from his real life experiences.
There was also some violent rage involving a frying pan and a window, I think. His alcoholism didn't help. Maryann also did a lot of backbreaking boring jobs to bring home some regular money while he kept dropping in and out of courses and writing. He expresses a lot of regret in his later poetry for being a terrible father and husband, but I think at least one of his children said he could never forgive him.
"And YES, perhaps, I need to stop falling in love with imaginary people from my future. Hot strangers I see once. Where do they go?"
Where are you, beautiful boy strangers? Why don't you come back for me?
@suzabellajones Apparently even making a joke like 'Hahaha, a million dollars please' raises the end average salary you're given as it technically sets a high anchor. Woah.
Does anyone else find nail polish makes their nails bad? Mine don't peel but they look much more ridge-y and damaged after a few weeks of continual painting. Are you meant to air nails in between spots of polish?
@katiemcgillicuddy I love the Freudian slip/typo here. 'My problem is really with sex addition - I just keeping adding other people onto my tally. If only I could do sex subtraction instead.'
On The Sweater
Boobs always get in the way of wearing cute sweaters.
Yessss! I think I'll use the forums for their usual helpful boost of communality and wordiness but to finish off my long running, long suffering novel, that needs to be finished before I put it,or me, out of our joint misery.
I did it three times in school (once with some kind of mad dash to the finish line, writing half of it in a day) and it's nice to look over those manuscripts and see they're not wholly bad. Fantasy is so much more fun to write - plot slows down, THROW IN A UNICORN. But then it burnt me out from writing for months after.
