It backfired, of course, but once I got over the initial shock of Ely’s email, I was mad as hell. That’s important, too. My momentary aligning myself with my aggressor — and his hatred of me, when you get right down to it, not only for having the gall to be flawed but also for spotlighting his own tremendous shortcomings — gave way to what I know: that I am worthy of being loved. How dare Ely insinuate I’m not. How dare he think I am somehow not good enough for him. I never responded to his email, but I did see him at a local café once. He positioned himself behind a column so that he was partially concealed, and I liked knowing he was uncomfortable. I liked knowing that he was the one who felt the need to hide.

@sudden but inevitable betrayal A tendon on the officer's pinky finger. I love how all the injuries are "slight concussion" and "slight dislocation". Sort of adds to the general whimsy of the situation, as if it was a parody of itself.

@ImASadGiraffe I agree - I'm sure they had a pre-nup and couldn't imagine that they'd orchestrate the IPO to happen the day or two prior to the wedding. Given the image we get of her, she doesn't seem like the type to marry someone who would go to that great measure of selfishness.
My misunderstanding was that somehow I interpreted "community property" to be, like, in the hands of the public? Like on the stock exchange somehow? I don't even know, brain.

@WhiskeySour Oh. Ooooh. I read "community property" wrong. I don't even know how to explain it, except that upon rereading, it makes perfect sense and I'm clearly in need of an afternoon caffeine/sugar re-up.
