On Secondary Relationships, Tequila Fumes, and the Lesbian Internet

@kimkrypto Thank you! I was just about to say that. I actually scrolled up twice to make sure the LW didn't write "bicurious" anywhere. There's good advice happening in the comments, but please stop getting her sexual orientation wrong!

On The Science of Fear: An Interview With "Scare Expert" Margee Kerr

@frigwiggin Oh, I should have linked to the game! It's actually called Slender, it's available here for free. Uh, have... fun? Hah. :)

...Should I ask what Salad Fingers is? Too scared to google.

On The Science of Fear: An Interview With "Scare Expert" Margee Kerr

@frigwiggin I LOVE Limbo! But I find it more darkly funny than scary, is that weird.

Also, I love/hate/love/hate/hate games like Amnesia and Slenderman. I have a group of friends that will get together, and one person will play the game hooked up to the TV, and everyone else will watch and yell out suggestions. It's super fun, especially as part of a group - I don't necessarily have to play the game myself, so I can hide under the table if I get too scared or whatever.

(Also: AHHHHHH SLENDERMAN. Slenderman is the scariest thing I've ever seen, it's the only video game thing I am legitimately afraid of in the "real" world. I am just unable to handle that motherfucker. That game is FLAWLESS. FLAWLESSLY TERRIFYING.)

On Friday Open Thread

@Valley Girl I was reading an article (can't find it now, of course) where Aliya Mustafina was talking about the team competition on Tuesday, about how they were crying of pain, first, because they didn't perform quite as well as they would have liked, but then crying of joy too. (And she was also very sweet and complimentary of the American team. Not really relevant but I love sportsmanship stuff like that.) So I guess they're all feeling some really complicated feelings! I would definitely be an emotional MESS no matter what happened.

On Off Balance

@Too Much Internet Aren't there also legitimate drugs that temporarily delay puberty, with few/no consequences? I am thinking of the drugs that are sometimes used for potentially transgender kids. I mean, not that using these drugs in Olympic athlete kids would be ethical, and maybe there are other, unsafe drugs in use? But I think safe drugs exist.

On Checking in With the Patriarchy

Can I take a second and complain about Marvel? Because oh, instead of a Black Widow origin movie (It could be like a spy thriller thing with ScarJo and Jeremy Renner HOW AMAZING WOULD THAT BE?), we needed yet ANOTHER movie about a nerdy scientist white guy giving himself superpowers? WE HAVE LIKE FIVE OF THOSE ALREADY. Ugh, fucking Ant-Man. Coulda had Jan or Wanda or Luke Cage or Carol, but noooooo.

And then in their new Guardians movie (which, to be fair, I know nothing about the original comics except what others have told me) there were apparently like 4 or 5 women characters they could have included, SOME OF WHOM ARE QUEER AND DATING EACH OTHER??? And instead they chose to put exactly one woman in the movie. Obviously. And don't even get me STARTED on their bullshit excuses for why there's no Black Panther movie because NO. NO, MARVEL. NO.

...Okay, sorry, clearly that's been building all week. There's a little more CAPSLOCK RAGE here than I meant to include.

On Dinner and a First Person Shooter

@Nutmeg Haha, actually, my brother and I used to watch our dad play computer games all the time. We'd sit on the floor of his office and watch him play Diablo II or Torment or Thief or Dues Ex. He probably thought we were nuts, but it was pretty great. I have such affection for those games, even though I never played any of them myself.
