On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With the Fug Girls

@yunkstahn My reactions, in precisely that order. I'm glad that this is the random day I decided to procrastinate with The Hairpin. And now off to GFY...

@vexosaurus Thank you! I went to library school (felt kind of like a waste of time, but necessary for the job) and have worked as a librarian in a public library for the last several years. Most everything I need for my job I learned on the job, or in my regular life; my love of technology is a big part of why I got this new position.

@frigwiggin Not gonna lie, the thought that I am in charge and will have the authority to change shit (okay, let people go) if things aren't happening the way I need them to is actually super exciting.

Today is my final day at a shitty job. I start a new job on Monday and it's better in terms of responsibilities and future prospects, but I'm so meh about it right now.

On the one hand, this means that my usual change-related terror isn't present, but on the other hand, I can't even enjoy this new chapter in my life.

Still, YOU GUISE: I'M NOW A LIBRARY DIRECTOR. Even though it's not sinking in, I know this is pretty major.

On Scandals of Classic Hollywood: The Many Faces of Barbara Stanwyck

I knew that I was familiar with her name, but I didn't recognize her face until I saw the pictures of her when she'd aged a bit. I watched a lot of Big Valley reruns when I was a kid, and I remember loving everybody on that show. I'm kind of afraid to watch it again as an adult, though, because I wonder if I'd hate it.

@DIES IMMORTALES!!! I have to tell you that my seasonal allergies protect me from smelling what the world actually smells like, and this is not always a bad thing. I work in a public library and there are many smelly people here who smell not great to me but vomitous to those without my allergies. Allergies > smelling smelly people
