On Really Good Books That Happen to Be My Father's Favorites

@szarah Sigrid Undset is among the top ten writers in William Vollman's hierarchy. His books are incredibly dense, sometimes repulsive, and sometimes astonishing. I personally have not read her yet.

On New Music: Sigur Rós, Regina Spektor, Kelly Clarkson, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

I have been waiting SO LONG for this Sigur Ros. Taking a big chance listening to it in my open office because so many times their music has made me cry actual tears. But, it's a chance I have no choice but to take. On the second cut and it is, as expected, a transcendent thing of indescribable beauty. I so can't wait to see them in July.

On Good Bourbon

The thing about bourbon, thanks to the regulations about it, is that there are plenty of really good bottom-shelf ones. Old Crow, for one. And a bunch of others. Yes, the top-shelf ones can be great, but for those on a budget, don't be afraid to explore those bottles close to the floor. Plenty drinkable, and some are really good (for the price you're paying).

On Preston Sturges Can You Save Me Now?

@dietrich Whenever I get around to seeing it. Though you probably won't see the response.

Stanwyck was also campily great in the trashy "Executive Suite," in which she plays a spinsterly editor. That one makes for a good double feature with "The Best of Everything," both trashy movies based on trashy books about career gals in NYC.

On Preston Sturges Can You Save Me Now?

@dietrich When I was looking for "Ladies..." on Netflix, I saw that. It's now in my queue. She was so smart and sexy and funny. The whole package. I have to watch "Double Indemnity" with a damp rag nearby to cool myself down during some of those scenes with MacMurray.
