I was wondering what to do with my old swim cap and that 1/4" foam rubber I have lying around. Now I will be the toast of the swim team!

On That New York Times Article About Children and Psychopathy
@damselfish I think the issue is about "labelling" a kid as psychopath. If there we are not clear if we can accurately diagnose something and know we can't appropriately treat something, should we label it? Especially if this could cause SERIOUS STIGMA to the child and the parent? I'm kinda with Dr Edens on this. Especially after the part where the camp didn't seem to improve any of the children. Although, we will never know if we can't treat something unless we study it...

@aphrabean I think you raise a good point. I do have a background in Psych and doing a PhD in Neuroscience. This was a super interesting article, but I had a few problems with it. One of my first reactions was about race and socioeconomic status. My first instinct was great, only the parents that have exhausted ALL resources (including the numerous pychiatrist and psychologist appointments, to get numerous diagnoses, which would cost a pretty penny I am sure) and have an educational background high enough to be interested in or to seek out a study for something obscure, like psychopathy in children, are getting treatment. So that means all the rich, mostly white kids are turning into "functional" adults, while the rest are ending up in jail. All of a suddenly that 1% of the population that make up 10-15% of the jail population (an already skewed statistic) is probably not very white anymore.

@The Kendragon You are right! Been there as well, my friend. Such a manipulation! "You suck, let me explain all the things you are already insecure about...now doesn't it feel soooo nice when I say I love you?". So easy to see through it when it's someone else or in retrospect. So hard to see it while it is happening. It makes me so angry, cause it worked so well with me in the past and I have seen many of my friends get put through this game before too. Sheesh. They don't all suck, or at least I hope they don't. Fingers crossed!

@The Kendragon Well glad you blocked him and cut off contact. AND glad you sent around the douchey texts to your friends! He deserves to get laughed at, if he's putting you down and lifting himself up.
Dude should not be sending round negative vibes to you. We all have moments of thinking the worst about ourselves, especially post break-up, no one should ever pour salt on a wound. Kudos to you for not putting up with it anymore! I don't know you, but I can still confidently say you deserve better than "pretty boy"-Finnick-wanna-be :)

@The Kendragon wow! Unless these emails/texts/etc. are providing serious entertainment for you and your friends, I would suggest having zero contact with this loser. I'm glad it just reminds you of why you dumped him, but no one needs to hear someone say they are shitty. So the only way I see this benefitting you is if you actually call your friend to laugh, as you read her the latest installment form Mr Pretty. In which case carry on.

On Elderly Dogs and Babies: A Primer
So just going to put it out there. Ask the vet about Prozac. If your dog is having anxiety about the baby, anxiolytics help dogs a lot for seperation anxiety. A new baby might count, since there is a lot less attention to go around. Might be worth talking to the vet about it, because it might make his last days a little easier.
P.S. loved the article! Cutest baby and elderly dog ever!
