@loren smith I enjoy E 6th street (NOT dirty 6th downtown). There really isn't much shopping in Austin. There are a few cute thrift stores on South Congress and South 1st, but besides that, it's just generic malls.

For cocktails, I'd suggest Rio Rita on E 6th, South Congress Cafe, or Halcyon (downtown on 4th). Margaritas are everywhere, but Guerros on South Congress is particularly good. For beer, I'd try Black Star Coop on North Lamar. Rainey St. is fun too, but like Coolallison said, parking is a bitch. It's a good place to land if you are using cabs or pedicabs.

@cabber It's just a restaurant, and I've barely been gone a month. Some other people still fill in, and they left way before me. After asking around, it is definitely something specifically related to something I did, or possibly some misunderstanding.

Right now I'm super confused and freaking out. I just got a new job last month, and I thought I left my old job on good terms, and with the understanding that I could fill in from time to time and pick up shifts for extra cash. The other day, one of my ex coworkers asked if I could fill in for him, so I asked the owner for approval. She informed me that I am no longer allowed to work there. WTF I have no idea what I did to deserve this. They are letting this other girl that they have thought about firing on multiple occasions fill in for people. None of the managers know why I am banned.

I sent a polite email to the owner asking for an explanation. I am concerned that I no longer have a good reference for future employment.

I love Blincoe! She is one of the coolest people I know. Also, she photographed my dog and I!

@garli Haha I already know like ALL of the greyhounds in Austin since I volunteer/foster with the greyhound rescue. I love seeing all of my creatures out and about!

@katiemcgillicuddy For me, it helps living in a different state. I've lived long distance from my family for 5 years now. It was much harder when I lived there, and I initially felt a lot of guilt for moving because I was the person that my brother trusted the most. Best of luck to your family as well. Good luck dealing with police too!

@katiemcgillicuddy Sounds like the path my 21 year old brother is on. He keeps getting DUI's, he's still paying off several MIPs from last year, and he's been caught with various substances, but somehow has avoided jail up to this point. It pains me to see my parents sacrificing so much time/money/emotions to help him, while it's obvious to everyone else that they are enabling him. I gave him my salvaged car last month (it was totaled in an accident that wasn't my fault, but still good to drive, and relatively easy to salvage the title). He totaled it less than a week later AND got another DUI in one fell swoop. I don't have any advice to you other than stay strong, take it easy, and treat yourself. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

I just had a job interview for a vet tech position at a local non-profit spay/neuter clinic! It was my first interview for a non-restaurant job, and I think I did pretty well. I also dropped off a thank you note afterwards, so hopefully that helps my prospects.

I'm so nervous and excited! I want to get out of waiting tables so badly. I know that this will be a different kind of customer service hell, but at least I'll feel like I'm making a positive impact on the community instead of waiting on rich housewives.

So, I cut my bangs about 2 months ago, and now I'm majorly regretting it. Mostly because they took over 2 years to fully grow out. Time to start over :(

@Faintly Macabre My mother is an elementary school teacher and I have heard her laryngitis horror stories. So much respect for what you guys do. It sounds like a complete nightmare.

@sceps yarx I'm doing my best to take it easy. I'm really frustrated by all of my coworkers who are refusing to cover for me, because I cover for everyone all the time. Luckily the management is doing their best to work with me, but the owner's policy for taking time off work is very hands off. ie: I'm fucked if people won't come in for me. Luckily I'm starting to feel a bit better, and I have sunday off. I hope you feel better soon!! :)
