The smart commentors are still here and still commenting, thanks.
I was tempted to search for the pictures because Jennifer Lawrence is hot. I chose not to because I didn't want to reinforce the shitty behaviour of the shitty person that hacked them in the first place, or be one of the shitty people further violating Jennifer Lawrence's privacy. I understand that my actions have consequences beyond myself and I try not to do shitty things.
beetnemesis is not taking responsibility for their actions and interpretation thereof. Sometimes people who are being that obstinate need harsh language to get through to them. Sometimes people use harsh language because they are angry and offended.
As for this piece being similar to a Jezebel piece, well... I will go see the article. But frankly there aren't too many different reasons to explain why all this is a problem, and things sometimes need to be repeated.
Also I will be honest, it took reading pieces like this for me to understand the seriousness of the issue beyond a general "well that's not ok" response.
@beetnemesis So either you DON'T agree with all the points or you acknowledge that you are a " privacy-violating, consent-hostile" person "causing direct pain to real human beings for the sake of egotistical curiosity and jack-off fodder".
I may have passive aggressively avoided reading some of Jolie's columns because you left the Hairpin and I realize now the error of my ways. Many many kudos and I look forward to owning this book!
I keep *intending* to make my bed :)
This was SO interesting! I am actually looking to see if there are any practices where I live, I am curious about the divinations.
Haiyan, not haiphan.
This is apparently an unpopular opinion but I hated Love, Actually. I was going to say I liked these posts way more than I liked the movie but I felt like I had to make that clear. I actually _really_ liked these posts, almost enough to make me consider rewatching the movie, but I think I will stick with my current arrangement.
I am drooling!
I still read Jezebel so I guess I shouldn't judge, but it certainly does feel both sensationalist and pandering now in a way it didn't before. I love Lindy West though.
@Lily Rowan hmmm that is something to consider. Though, I think she is expected to pose in a masculine way. I mean clothes are supposed to accentuate, or give the illusion of, certain silhouettes right? Silhouettes that are considered desirably masculine...
ETA: the other article says she binds her breasts. So she is presenting as male, I guess it's like drag?
