On The League of Ordinary Ladies: Short Dates

@BuffyBot I can't lie (to the point that I sometimes give too much extra "context" to stories just to MAKE SURE I AM GETTING IT RIGHT) but I have been the best friend of a liar/exaggerator, and I dunno, there was something kind of special about knowing when she was lying -- like because *I* was her best friend, *I* knew the truth. We're not really friends anymore, which is sad for many reasons, but the hardest thing is that now she will lie to me, and I can tell. :(

On If You Still Can, Don't Think Too Hard About This One

@teenie my friend with an autoimmune disorder takes anti-malaria pills for (i think) this same reason -- to trick her immune system into thinking it is fighting malaria so that it stops fighting itself. science! (disclaimer: i might be remembering this wrong)

On Really Good Books That Happen to Be My Mom's Favorites

@Megano! ah, true. (i'm only halfway through the latest book, so perhaps the worst of tyrion is yet to come). i guess i just meant that i think of him as an author-insert character, where his main flaw is that he is a dwarf and everyone else is mean to him. otherwise he is so witty and smart (literally the only person in the universe whose plans almost always work out) and is always secretly nice to the "good" characters (i.e. sansa) and mean to the "bad" ones (cersei). i dunno, i still like him, though!

On Really Good Books That Happen to Be My Mom's Favorites

@The Lady of Shalott Is it bad that I find Tyrion on the ASOIAF books to be Mary Sue-ish?

On How to Pack for a Trip

@Killerpants I HOPE it is a cult because that just adds so many layers to this. Layers of leopard pajamas.

There is a Landmark resort in Vail: http://www.skihills.com/r121/b3419_landmark.html

On How to Pack for a Trip

@Nutellaface neck gaiters! of course!

OR -- because it's the pajama section -- garters?? although, no stockings, and I'm pretty sure no one is holding up their thorlos with garters.

On How to Pack for a Trip

@boysplz It could be gaiters (things that cover your shoes/ankles/lower legs to keep snow out) but I do hope it is gators.

Also, I think it's 3 piece leopard pajamas, not spruce.

On 'Pinners Unite for Good!

A coworker recently recommended GiveWell, an org that evaluates charities based on their track record, cost-effectiveness, room for more funding, and transparency/accountability -- if you're worried that your $$ maybe aren't being used efficiently, or just looking for an objectively useful charity, it might be a helpful resource.

On The Best Time I Took My Baby to the Emergency Room

@Maria My brother also ran into a coffee table and had to get stitches. Also one time when he was like 4 he fell sideways down some stairs and kindasorta ripped his nose partially off his face. We had been playing a game I made up, and I felt super guilty at the time, but he got like 30 stitches-of-honor and didn't have any lasting damage so now I just feel... a little guilty.
