On Ask a Humanities Grad Student, Part One: Scotch and Lentils

@nyikin I'm in NewYork, not DC, but I'm also doing intermediate Arabic right now - let me know if you have any interest in an email pinpal type thing! (Or anyone else? As they say in Arabic...I will love someone I speak to you with.)

On "Rosebud."

@Leah Dow@facebook I was just about to hit post on a minor rant about how uncompressed quicktime-to-drive looks better and is cheaper, anyway, but thank you for doing it for me!

On How Not to Order a Drink, Part Five

@redheaded&crazie Okay sorry everyone for being five days late on this but I was in Toronto for the first time this past week and not checking the internets. AND I can tell you that there is a totally decent Italian restaurant called Paese on King St W that has byob. I think they charge unknown corkage fees after the first bottle BUT if you're only going with one or two other people that's still a deal!

On No. 5 Cannot Be Unseen

@spanglepants After reading that I HAD to google "Brian Harvey baked potato" ... and this is what I found:

"Troubled reality TV star Brian Harvey has provided an astonishing explanation for the bizarre and terrifying accident in which he was run over by his own Mercedes... claiming it was caused by a meal of three giant baked potatoes smothered in tuna mayonnaise and cheese."

On Ask a Clean Person: Get Rid of Your Coworkers, Seriously, They Are Revolting

@Ophelia OH. You are a genius.

I have ruined so many packages of Mrs. Meyers wipes and I just throw them out without even thinking of...wait for it...re-hydrating them. Never again!

On Really Good Books About Fake Murder

@yeah-elle SECONDING The Westing Game. I read it repeatedly from 4-7th grades, but I think it would hold up beautifully at any age.

I had such crushes on Theo and Doug, too.

On How to Write a Resume, Part One: Practices to Avoid

@keaton Include it! If it's relevant to the job you're applying for I wouldn't even separate it out into a special volunteer section. If you're worried that it doesn't count as a "real job" because you weren't paid, or you don't want to confuse the reader, your title and description should make that clear.

On The Devil's Coach Horse, or A Weekend in Bordeaux

@carolita How amazing that Weehawken, land of my ancestors, gets full billing with Paris and Madrid, land of my imaginary and wishful ancestors.
