On Chiddy Bang, "By Your Side"

I saw them the year before last(?), whenever they were here in Australia, sometime recently-ish at a festival and they were super cute live and really fun to go and see. The crowd loved them!

On Girls on Tape

@Jon Custer Ahhhh I know! As a little Aussie girl I want to listen on the bus and go through all the archives, but it's a total pain to use.

On Fitness Class Review: Pole Dancing

@TheGenYgirl I started when I was maybe 17? I don't even know now, but I vividly remember arriving and the class being mainly middle-aged ladies going to have some fun. There wasn't any shame to it though! As for other people, there were a handful of creepy guys who were idiots about it, especially as at the time here in Australia it really hadn't taken off at all. For a while people were spreading rumours that I was a stripper (presumably after hearing I did poledancing?!) and I told them there was no way I'd be working my shitty high-school jobs if I was making that sort of money! Anyway, my advice would be just don't tell people if you're not comfortable, but from my experience people ultimately don't really care/get over it quickly and support you.

On Fitness Class Review: Pole Dancing

I started pole dancing probably about three or four years ago. I've dabbled over that time with various things, but I will say my instructor was the fittest, most kick-ass lady I've ever met. (See this for my favourite routine of hers: http://youtu.be/rKRAzIxmmdQ and this one: http://youtu.be/EVfgLqLGdbo for the most hilarious character performance as a granny) I don't do it any longer, decided it wasn't really my cup of tea and the spinning sometimes left me a bit queasy, along with my slippery hands, but it's a great chance for ladies to get back into something of a dance-ilk. I know I missed dancing sometimes as I used to do it a lot when I was younger, but it wasn't something I wanted to get back into specifically, so poledance combined that with strength as well.

On When to Touch a Painting*

When I was a little girl I had a good friend with super arty parents. Her dad was into these crazy, sculptural sort of paintings with a million layers of paint and swirls/ridges/bumps. I used to walk down the hallway at night and secretly run my hands along all of them because they were amazingly 3D. I was so afraid I'd do it and break off a swirl or something, but they just were too tempting.

On SimplyNoise Reviews, in Order of How Soon the Author Will Murder Someone

I seriously had no idea this was a thing? I quite like sleeping with some sort of noise in the background, like the TV or a podcast, but white noise is the WORST. It totally puts me on edge, even just testing the sample drove me mad. It makes me want to fix it because ala Ms Clavel something is not right whenever you hear this noise! It's the in-between-channel-electrical-device-help-me-please signal. Plus, I didn't even know there were other 'colours', can someone please enlighten me?!

On Nana's Clothespin Ornaments

I used to make these with my grandmother! Except they weren't Christmas decorations, they were just little dolls we called peg people. I would insist on using all of her fabric cutoffs to make the very latest fashions (read: floral leggings, puffy vests) and bead my own tiny necklaces etc.

On Girls on Tape

I love your radio/podcast posts! As an Aussie girl I only just got into TAL recently and suddenly it all fell into place that the wonderful, stylish Jane from Hairpin was of course also a big part of TAL. :)

For those asking about when to listen to podcasts, I put it on in the background of my net browsing or often listen to them on my bus trips, which are about an hour, so usually fit a podcast perfectly. However, this particular one requires a bit more concentration to unpick the accents.
