@j-i-a HOW NOT? I find this all so, so very fascinating! Your interviewing skills, plus the subject matter, I just... so great.
Yes, I too have many conflicting feelings here, but "The safety thing’s a canard, anyway. Imagine a literally perfectly safe abortion pill. No drug interactions, no side effects, just a painless, safe abortion on demand. Do you really think all these people who [are calling for] 'safety' today would just say, 'Oh, now it’s perfectly fine, keep a bottle in the bathroom cabinet'? No, of course not, and I think we all know that. It’s really not about safety, and never has been. It’s about who has control over women’s bodies."
On "Maybe I needed to prove that I'm wife material. If he wanted 300 sandwiches, I’d give him 300 sandwiches"
@hungrybee I want to believe that their relationship is much more complex than this interview makes it seem, and that the author was deliberately picking out facts and phrasing them to make it sound the way it sounds, but yikes. I mean, just wow.
@laurel WTF Evolution has things to say about the Suriname Toad.
Can we talk about that letter she wrote about cancelling part of her tour last year because of her dying dog, and how I read it, and cried for days? Oh my gosh, you guys, I was feeling tender already today because it's about a year since I lost one of my dogs, and this just made me go reread that letter and now I'm doing it all over again.
@keristars I always wonder about the statistics, because in the entirety of both sides of my family, there is not a single person who is openly gay. Not a one. And I feel like we're a really tolerant bunch, and there wouldn't be any issues if someone did come out, but then again, is it really possible that there aren't any queer folks in my family? It just seems so unlikely!
On Welcome Home
@MoxyCrimeFighter Yup. I just finished grad school, and am spending the summer in Tajikistan while job searching, so hopefully I can be out by the end of the year. I love my parents, but I need to get out!
@enic I came here to write exactly this.
Jia! I am currently in Tajikistan for the summer! This will be my third -stan, having previously spent time in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. I like to joke that I'm going for the Bingo (all 5 former Soviet -stans). And now one doesn't even need a visa for Kyrgyzstan, right?
Still reading, but "I feel like Noomi Rapace in Prometheus, except I get a cup of tea and a cheese sandwich instead of an aborted squid alien."
