On October Horoscopes From Galactic Rabbit

oh rabbit, thank you for acknowledging the banality and hardness and bravery it takes to be a lone bull in a field instead of assuming all the other soft-eyed times. because I am looking for people who will smile at my heavy horns. oh oh oh.

On Ask a Fancy Person: First Parties, Working for Free, and What to Do When Your Gym Is Crawling with Children

@cordovan sofa oh, I definitely can agree with you on that one. I'm a totally risk-averse person who was probably riskier when I was younger (i.e. falling off of balance beams, crashing into things on bikes, etc etc.) And I totally was at a 7 as a kid who was banned from a climbing wall because hello, I wasn't old enough yet and an adult couldn't sign off. And I got that because liability.

I think I just assumed from the letter writer's tone that it was a "fancy" gym, so I was thinking possibly like, hospital health club? or some sort of urban center professional fitness gym? And in that case, I just don't actually think kids should be around because that's not what the intention is. When I was an eight year old destroying my pelvis while crashing off balance beams or playing blindman's bluff on playground equipment, it was because those spaces where mine (which, okay, a park/playground is for all ages.) I admit I have gone to a grown up gym and I probably would talk to management if I saw toddlers wandering about, just to make sure there were policies in place. That was just the interpretation that I had. I'm not sure I can equate a Formula Fitness Center with a suburban park, but I can see your point.

On Ask a Fancy Person: First Parties, Working for Free, and What to Do When Your Gym Is Crawling with Children

@Rookie (not the magazine) (not that there's anything wrong with that) Yeah, I mean, there's lots of stuff at the gym that makes me nervous and definitely have had to sort of involve staff when a GROWN MAN was using a dip machine in a totally unsafe way (he was using it as a Step? instead of kneeling on it and doing controlled dips?). It was shaking and I just had a vision of it collapsing on him/cracking his skull and staff definitely agreed with me and told him to please use it as intended. I can't imagine my nerves if I saw little ones who got their hand caught in an erg or worse. Even the Y has rules against letting under high schoolers on the gym floor with obvious reasons.

On Ask a Fancy Person: First Parties, Working for Free, and What to Do When Your Gym Is Crawling with Children

@Sunny P@twitter I gotta say, if I came into the steam room and saw someone downing a chocolate milk (which, hey, I appreciate that post-workout choice!), I would be really weirded out. Mostly because like what if that milk spills? That sounds like an AWFUL cleanup situation for staff and ugh steamy milk smell ugh. I get the locker room weirdness too, but there's no area with a Gatorade vending machine? Annoying juice bar? Stairs or hallway? My humble opinion: anywhere that encourages open-toed/no shoes, please don't bring food/drink. :(

On In Support of Debra Harrell, Jailed for Letting Her 9-Year-Old Play Unsupervised in the Park

[meta] Hairpin commentariat, thank you for being y'all.

But also this makes my blood boil and I just feel like coming out swinging if one person I know starts to talk shit about this woman. And I do not for once think whomever called 911 was ACTUALLY thinking about that child's safety because jesus christ, maybe go talk to the working woman of color? No? GOD I HATE EVERYTHING.

On Weekend Roundup

Since it is a quiet Saturday morning, I just wanna say how I miss the 'Pin Friday threads sometimes. But that the music game is always on it over here and still so much more chill than the BF commentariat. That's all.

@adorable-eggplant I am a firm believer in June Gloom! Also sending good vibes your way. Also music for June Gloom which for me has been the new Solange album (especially Bad Girls) and moodily watching ice melt in my glass.

@adorable-eggplant @ Rookie

I had been waiting for the Rabbit for the entire last week of June. Why is GR so good? Also agreed: re light wines and swimming. One week till the pool opens. I also am feeling surprisingly into the Mercury Retrograde starting tomorrow because June Gloom and you know what, I'm okay with being really pinche slow right now and just havin' a sit.

but now it is Negroni time.
