@iceberg If she were a real person, I would hate her completely because she's such a jackass. But as a character in a book, she is so incredibly, wonderfully flawed. There are few fictional characters like her.
I haven't watched this show, but the subtitle angle is an interesting one. I am severely hearing-impaired, and therefore watch almost all television with the closed-captioning on. It's both a blessing and a curse, because I get all the words, but I sometimes miss visual things (or things are blocked by the captioning). So a show that is heavily captioned wouldn't cross my radar as something that could be questionable.
That said, I do wonder how much of this family's behavior is All Them and how much of it is For The Camera. The act of watching changes the thing being watched, after all, and I don't know of anyone (except this current crop of Big Brother contestants) who can totally forget that the cameras are there.
I asked a boy to prom my junior year and he said no because I was "too smart and intimidating." Sorry about my giant brain, friend. I ended up going to our Big Rival School's prom instead with a dude I was kind of dating and had pretty much the best time ever. I made some friends that weekend that I still have, 21 years later.
@par_parenthese - I have sat through a number of terrible movies (some more than once *coughDECOYBRIDEcough*) simply because David Tennant is in them.
@OhMarie Yeah, I don't think Woody Allen has EVER been sexy and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. He is just too whiny for my taste.
@maybe partying will help ME TOO! Sometimes, with the right angle I think "oh, okay, I get it" but for the most part, I'm all confused-dog-head-tilt about him.
On Getting Guns
I don't really see the appeal of target shooting at a range. It seems boring. But if you go out in a field and shoot skeet/trap shooting? THAT IS SUPER FUN.
@Lost penguin Agreed. Cherry Garcia is delicious! It's no Vermonty Python (come back!!!), but it's v. tasty.
