By laurel on Scandals of Classic Hollywood: The Ecstasy of Hedy Lamarr

I have goosebumps. Thanks for this, AHP. I think of Hedy when I remember the time when I worked at a natural history museum and some old fool, with whom I was trapped in the library elevator, said something about women playing at being ambitious but really just looking for husbands. I asked him, "Is that really what you think our lives are like?" And then we just stood there in silence together as the floors dropped around us.

Things I have learned from this trailer:
-when your girlfriend is your computer, she has no choice but to laugh at your terrible, terrible jokes, making her the perfect girlfriend
-given the right mustache, any man can look completely absurd

By proudsquarepeg on The Books of Our Childhood Summers

Omg, so many. One summer it was all "The Westing Game" (Ellen Raskin) all the time. Then, "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" (Avi) - Danny DeVito, I was promised a movie! And "The Pigman" (Paul Zindel) - because I was getting into angst.

I wonder what they did with all that food afterwards...
Did they just set it out in the studio's/ad agency's communal kitchen where, for the rest of the day, all the employees in turn would spend a few seconds hovering over the table, clearly engaged in intense mental deliberations, before slowly backing away?

@yeah-elle "That's a weird thing to say" is a phrase a lot of people approaching strange women need to hear more often.

THIS IS SO GOOD. And so smart. Jia. You are so smart! I can't manage to casually call out sexism with that much eloquence and class. I splutter and flail my hands. Gonna write some of this down for real.

@meetapossum Ugh, those dudes were terrible. "Deviate" is a big word? I've been lucky enough to have really nice conversations with guys I've met when I've gone to shows alone. But perhaps it's the bands that bring these types of fans.

But, for what it's worth, summer IS the best.

I can't handle this. Jia, you are the level best, and your responses to those woefully bland, uninteresting and toxic dude-bros were spot-on. I raise a cup of lukewarm festival beer to you.
