On Eleven Days Alone In: Paris

Love the butcher pics! I lived in Paris for five months in college and I was almost always wandering around alone. By choice! Paris is one of the best walking cities in the world and it's so easy (and so much better) to get lost and see the sights by yourself.

Good loner tip: you can usually get into museums for free if you flash a student ID (even better if it's an art history ID, which I had there).

On Beauty Q&A: Hair Products -- Why So Many?

@S. Elizabeth Good luck! Make sure to dilute it as called for on the package.

On Beauty Q&A: Hair Products -- Why So Many?

@christonacracker I have heard that the alcohol in hairspray can dry out your hair when you repeatedly bake it in with a curling iron. Just personally, I have noticed that setting lotion makes my hair smell great and look super silky/shiny after I curl it.

If you don't curl your hair regularly, it's probably fine to use hairspray.

On Beauty Q&A: Hair Products -- Why So Many?

@wee_ramekin Ooh hair twins! I usually want to do the opposite and keep my hair on the wavy end of the spectrum. When I do that, I use a curl cream (not gel) and twist into sections. If I don't feel like spending the time on twisting, I just scrunch with the curl cream and use a diffuser pointed toward my scalp. That gets much bigger curls.

You should definitely use a curl defining cream (I like this: http://bit.ly/K9RVns) if you want a curlier look.

On Beauty Q&A: Hair Products -- Why So Many?

Something I looove is setting lotion. It's a big hit in "vintage hair" circles and it helps keep your curls set after using a curling iron or hot rollers. (For example, after you brush out hot rolled curls for a Veronica Lake look, it keeps your hair in a general curled pattern rather than a frizz cloud.)

You spray a little on before curling each section of hair and it seriously works, man. Much better than using hairspray before curling! Bad!

On Mascarapedia, Volume I

So my ideal mascara would be ultra curling, plus adding length and some volume. My eyelashes are long but super straight, so they start wilting after using a curler unless the mascara has curling grip. My latest genius discovery is that ASIAN mascaras are incredddddible for curl.

I found one called Heroine Make in NYC's Chinatown for about $20. It is probably the best curl I've found so far, but the stuff will NOT come off unless I very gently rub a q-tip with makeup remover over my lashes for minutes and minutes. I wish there was an alternative and for less moolah, but I haven't found it yet.

On Amusingly Horrible Things I Have Said: The Bracket

The single worst thing I ever said was in front of my friend to our third friend. We were all sitting around, chatting, and Third Friend said, "Well, when I get married--" I cut her off without thinking and said something like, "Don't you mean if? Although, you'd probably be the one to settle."

Commence tears and silent treatment for days.

On Friday Bargain Bin: Festival Edition

@out of order It's amazing to freshen up greasy roots on second, third, fourth day hair. It also adds more texture to clean hair (aka, makes it easier to tease or pull hair up and have it stay). I find baby powder works better than actual dry shampoo, because you rub it in and SEE it suck up oil. Sprayable dry shampoo can be pretty wimpy with oil.

Nooo Nail Rocks are terrible! They stiffen up and bubble. Do not want. Use Sally Hansen or Kiss nail strips instead.
