@yeah-elle Don't know if you are only looking for fairly recent stories, but if you like Alice Munro you should really read Chekhov. They are frequently compared, and with good reason. His stories are as lovely as hers.

@Mrs. Grundy Also, I was somehow allowed to read V.C. Andrews novels as a kid. I think my parents were just happy that I loved to read, and so didn't police what I was reading too much, but MAN... those were not appropriate for a nine-year-old.
