By Lady Humungus on Famous People It Took Me Way Too Long To Realize Are Not the Same Person

I have trouble when I see Michael Strahan's name, I always think of David Strathairn and then wonder why he's interviewing celebrities?

@Other Alice

Thats an easy way to deflect what I think was a pretty careful objection.

Do you really disagree anyway? Don't you think we should avoid characterizing any groups by their worst members?
It seems to me that viewing individuals as inherently scary because of the group they're born into is the very definition of bigotry.

Forget hashtags by misogynists, we're talking golden rule shit here.

By SpideogBeag on My Best Friend's Cancer

I lost my cousin to cancer two years ago. We were 3 months apart and very close. Stories like this are important, it's ridiculous to see depictions of cancer and terminal illnesses in film/tv, all soft-focus and full of tender and eloquent last words, when the reality is tedious, complicated, heartbreaking and ugly. There is always good stuff though - and not just the things that came before illness - I still laugh at the morbid jokes we made. Thanks for this though, truly.

It's natural to read this as clever commentary about our crazy modern times, until you're sitting at a bar and in comes Edith, hauling a small but heavy dude.

@Jinxie @fabel Thirded.

Also, I'm kinda rolling my eyes at the humble-bragging and faux-surprise of the folks who just can't believe that someone wouldn't have a tool set or know how to use tools. Some people don't, and that's fine.

I didn't learn to change a tire until four years ago. Thankfully, a handy lesbian instructed me; God forbid a man had taught me, as that would apparently make me a candidate for much ridicule.

@Inkcrafter Plenty of good writers write only based on their experiences-they just aren't scrutinized against a backdrop of disturbingly all-white media. I think it would be worse if she tried to write for black characters based on what she'd "heard" about black people.

I do not want to talk about this show anymore. Tell me about the last animal you petted instead.

@bitzyboozer Does it help to know that it is approximately one million times better than ANTM? And that Ru does Tyra better than Tyra does herself?
