On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With the Fug Girls

@Urwelt Yep. The whole point of the second shift concept is that caretakers don't have time to pursue hobbies or additional income.

On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With the Fug Girls

@chickpeas akimbo Exactly. It's a really weird intro to an otherwise interesting sounding series.

On Internet Work and Invisible Labor: An Interview With the Fug Girls

I love the Fug Girls and I can tell this series will be interesting, but the comparison between second shift domestic labor and digital content production is a little flippant. Jessica and Heather are financially compensated for their work. And even if AHP wasn't paid for posting to her blog at first, it was clearly benefitting her career and eventual income. This really has nothing to do with the feminist term second shift, which refers to unpaid caretaker work typically performed by women (as AHP mentioned). You can't really compare unpaid, low status household & childcare work with the luxury of having time to build an online brand and develop your professional skills.

@Linette Check out Mysteries and Scandals! It was on E! in the late '90s. There are a couple episodes on YouTube! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysteries_and_Scandals

On Not a GIF, Not Yet a Video

But it's Flash! The whole beauty of the GIF is its low res, unique file format.
