Oh dear oh dear, I was awful- My senior quote was from Nietzsche. I thought I was such a hot shit smart kid. *Throws self away* I was also voted "most unpredictable," which, who can say?
@queenofbithynia There aren't right words, but I am so sorry.
@DullHypothesis This was just perfect- you've put that visceral dad/daughter love into unforgettable words. I'm so glad for you that he's with you still!
@A. Louise Sweetheart, I hear you. My 20 year old sister was the one across the hall, ten years ago this summer. I still have occasional flashes of fury and bargaining that rise up like bile. I hope you can find some comfort this weekend. HUGS
Once upon a time a young woman was curious and ambitious and wanted to find work that would be intellectually stimulating and socially helpful. She learned and learned and learned, and took a job that was generally what she wanted, with room to grow. In the meantime she met a kind and honest man and they had an exuberant baby. The woman did pretty well at her generally satisfying job, tried to be a friendly and patient parent and wife, kept in touch with her friends even when they couldn't hang out often, and frequently made nutritious meals. She decided that 'pretty good much of the time' was just perfect for her so she shrugged her shoulders at the mirage of Ideal Womanhood and felt happy. The End.
@iceberg I wear mine day in and day out! It's an opal, and it's one of the few tangible things my partner has given me that he chose completely on his own (he selected brilliantly). Usually he gifts with experiences or to my exact specifications, so the ring is mostly special to me because he found it.
@Kenneth Berserk Great name, dude.
So I am building a formal mentoring program for undergraduate students from scratch at work, and I would like to know: if you were (or are being) mentored as a student, what was the best thing? If you were not mentored, what would you have wanted?
@frenz.lo That's so cool- have a fantastic time!
