@hallelujah I don't post here often (though I creep all the time!) but I planned my own wedding a couple years ago for like 150ish people? And I had fun! And I loved it! And we are cheap as all hell.
Vistaprint is amazing for cheap and nice invitations/thank yous/etc and I get soo many discount offers from them to this day. Amazon registries are great, as are Honeyfund registries, which is what we did, since we had cohabited for some time and didn't need new stuff, but couldn't afford to travel for a honeymoon trip. We hit up Trader Joe's the morning of the wedding for flowers and a couple of my mom's friends stuffed them into various thrifted vases/jars before the ceremony started.
We were engaged for a year but besides collecting things when we saw them, didn't really put anything together until maybe 5 months beforehand, at which point we started at a pace of maybe one night a week, working on stuff for a couple hours at a time? Then towards the end I recruited some buddies and we finished up the rest of all the little cutesy projects I wanted to work on (which was totally unnecessary for a dope wedding, but I'm a crafter by nature). Craigslist is also a good bet for people unloading their own wedding stuff.
Good luck and congrats!
@de-lurked Yes yes! I was a girl scout, even, and had no idea what Samoas were until I moved away from home. I much prefer the name Samoas, though they make me think of Samoans? Caramel DeLites seem like a diet food, which those delicious cookies decidedly are not.
@Stickynee I hadn't done this until now but it was so fun! Helen-Elise Prague-Louie.

@PistolPackinMama So far so good! Living up to the hype, natch. A fun read too. Also, I am obsessedddddd with Moby Dick. Less of a fun read but it has been absolutely formative in my adult life. That may or may not require a beautiful and extremely awkward French literature professor whose name sounds like My Love spending two months talking about every teensy tiny detail. I love literary minutae/adorable professors!

@The Everpresent Wordsnatcher I am LITERALLY THE ONLY PERSON WITH A DEGREE IN LITERATURE WHO HAS NOT READ OWEN MEANY so I'm reading that right now, as well as a collection of translations of Borges' literary theory pieces, The Grants Book of the Irish Short Story, and an ever-changing stream of new young children's picture books - The Hueys in The New Sweater by Oliver Jeffers is a current favorite.

I'm new! Not the the Pin, which I've been reading for likeareallylongtimeguyssssss but to commenting. I finally made the jump! I feel like an imposter because maybe I'm not as cool as the other Pinners but nobody will know that because you'll never see me (unless I go to a Pin Up but they're never in my town and LA is too many people-y!). I have a cat with 26 toes and she is SO CUTE and named after Ford from Hitchhiker's Guide (because she has thumbs!) but she's mean and she hisses like no cat I've ever known. I am a preschool teacher, I love whiskey, and I am a book junkie like mad. I'm currently watching reruns of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
@log lady I created an account after being a year+ lurker to comment on you and yours! LOG LADY I LOVE YOU. Whew. Twin Peaks forever, and also your advice is tops! I would totes read "Ask a (log)Lady"
