My plan is as follows:
1) Pay off all my existing credit card debt (currently under $2000! Could be much worse!) and build my savings as much as I can while I'm still in grad school and my student loans aren't in repayment yet.
2) Pay off my student loans forever, but avoid racking up any more credit card debt with the fiscal responsibility I will somehow have managed to instill in myself by graduation.
...The whole plan pretty much hinges on that part about instilling fiscal responsibility in myself in the next two years or so. Otherwise I'm screwed.
@kmc I don't think Grey's had ever had anything quite as "oh my god why am I watching this, why would I do that to myself" as Violet's baby getting stolen or Charlotte's rape storyline, no.
Private Practice also seems crazier to me because, like, Grey's is set in a surgical hospital! You expect terrible horrible bad things to happen, even if you might expect them to happen more to random patients than to the show's protagonists! PP starts out all "Laid-back California holistic medicine! Addison is fleeing here to escape her crazy stressful life in Seattle!" and then the horror starts.
"In the same interview, she asserted 'When I die, my epitaph should read: "She paid all the bills."'"
...I want to be her when I grow up.
Definitely adding Sunset Boulevard to my list of movies to watch this weekend. It may bot be strictly a horror movie, but there's a fabulous creepy house and some murder, it's close enough.
1) Team Ghosts AND The Governess Is Insane! More fun that way.
2) I read The Haunting of Hill House over the summer after being in love with the movie for years. I wondered going in if it would still scare me after having seen the movie so many times. And then I got to the scene where the doctor's wife and her buddy are talking about their ~conversation with the spirits~ and it's all ridiculousness and pointless and then Nell's name comes up. AUGH. CHILLS EVERYWHERE.
I remain convinced that if I stare at that peackock feather-turban-fishnet sleeve picture long enough, I will unlock the cosmic secret of Being Fabulous.
@Hellcat No, I'm talking about this outfit: http://www.push-start.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/1940s.jpg
As far as I know it was never in the TV show, but she had that look in comics occasionally. Not very practical for being a cat burglar, but I think it's pretty fabulous.
@Ellie I'm thinking about being Catwoman, but in her old-school purple dress costume because I just don't think I'd feel comfortable in a bodysuit. Also I figure it would set me apart from everybody else who wants to be Catwoman! So of course here I am, sharing the idea with the internet.
@Daisy Razor I cannot fathom wearing three pairs of tights at once. I tried to put on two once when it was really cold and gave up halfway through. If it's too cold for one pair of tights, isn't that what leggings are for?
@Megano! This is my response, too. NO, SCIENCE.
There is a third Shirley Jackson option, which is that we know about her from The Lottery and from the movie adaptation of The Haunting (original, not the remake, never ever the remake) but...have never actually gotten around to reading anything of hers besides The Lottery. *sheepish* I had already put We Have Always Lived in the Castle on my summer reading list, though, and am going to choose to see this post as a sign from the universe that I should get going on that.
