On Scandals of Classic Hollywood: That Divine Gary Cooper

Fun article, but Ms. Peterson skipped a couple of good (or at least interesting) films. I dislike Rand too, but the film of The Fountainhead is deliciously bonkers, thanks to King Vidor's fiery direction, and it features the mind-melting scene of Cooper wielding a pneumatic drill so phallic it practically tunnels through the screen.
The other overlooked film would be "Man of the West," one of Anthony Mann's typically intense and neurotic 50s Westerns. Cooper stars as a man ensnared into rejoining a pack of evil cowboys, and there's an especially jawdropping scene where an enraged Cooper strips Jack Lord (Hawaii 5-O!) down to his underwear. Good stuff...
