On Never-Complainers, Workaholics, and the Balding-and-Manly
@christonacracker cosigned - my low-complainer mate never really complains much about anything unless he's in a grump. which is rare. and then he complains about everything (including me, to my face). so if he's a kvetcher in general to you about other stuff, but never about you, then yeah - he may need some communication coaching.

@BosomBuddy yo, hold the train! from one "asshole" to another, I don't believe/agree with that sort of label for people who "complain a lot" to those who don't.
liiike, I struggle to not nag/complain. I'm very type A and more than my fair share of neurotic, and so this is my achilles heel. Does this mean I'm an asshole? maybe, but more than anything it means I believe in "better out than in" and have to curb that tendency sometimes so that the people I love can just relax and live. Does this mean that someone who doesn't do it isn't an asshole? maybe, but maybe not - i've known of the oocasional non-complainers who have beefs, but keep them in. and just like gas, it eventually expands to the point of explosion and then they just up and leave and move elsewhere. IT'S RARE, but it does happen, and I think this is what our LW1 sister is concerned about.
(i see that you consider yourself an asshole too, so unless you're just 100% joking, STOP! you're not an asshole! well, maybe you're an asshole, but I strongly doubt that because YOU'RE ONE OF US!)

bravo. this is an excellent demonstration that there are so many different, unique people in the world, and what is anathema to one is gorgeous and inspiring to another.
I struggled to figure this out with my fertility issues - how do you bring it up when you're truly dating with the goal of finding a long-term partner? to most men it meant "sweet, instant safe sex!" but you could tell they weren't very invested. Then I found my current partner, and he told me one day that he knew I was worried he wouldn't want to be with me long-term because of it, and assured me in the most wonderful, beautiful way that his choice to commit to me included all my "things" like my hormonal difficulties and what that may mean for having children in the future.

@meetapossum I have a friend, and your letter describes her life perfectly one year ago. Now she is living in her dream city, doing a job she loves, and life isn't all roses but at least she's squared away her professional life much better, and gotten into a job that is using her talents. It's just a numbers game... eventually, with ongoing effort, you'll get where you want to be.

cherries are soooo reminiscent for me, i wonder if it's like that for some of you too? it completely takes me back to family picnics. I feel like a little girl again.

@Quinn A@twitter ooh! ooh! I use the envelope system, because i've been on a tight budget for FOREVER. It works great, I just have three envelopes: spending (eating out, drinking out, shopping, anything not essential for life function), gas money, grocery money. the rest goes to bills or savings.
You just have to make sure to revisit your budget that you base your envelopes off of to make sure you're not over or underestimating what should be in the envelopes. Your ideal is to not have a surplus, but not be wanting. The good news is that if you do have a surplus, it can cover those weeks where you just need to buy more stuff (like prescriptions, or those weeks where you run out of shampoo AND conditioner AND tampons AND ibuprofen ALL AT THE SAME TIME)
