@shalalas wow, yes, I relate so much to all of this. Why is it so weird to be "on the market" for friends? Like, if you are dating, you can talk about that and it's seen as normal but if I say I don't have many friends in the city and want to have more it always sounds so pathetic!
I looove talking about frienships. My core group is from high school, but some of us have been friends since kindergarden, which means they've known me longer than my sisters have.
I do have a best friend, in the sense that she's my soulmate, someone who always gets how I'm feeling and loves to talk for hours about all kinds of stuff and is a huge part of my life. But I have other dear dear friends and also she's the kind of person who inspires trust so she's everybody's BFF and I had to learn to deal with that and cultivate other relationships 'cause i'd go crazy if I wasn't OK with "sharing" her.
I moved to a new city 3 years ago (in Mexico it's not that common. Of my group of 9 friends, 7 currently live in our hometown) and making friends has been HARD. I have one close girlfriend and that's it. I meet a lot of cool people but they all seem to have their gang already and I always feel super awkward asking some one on a "friend date".
I loved what you said about how they don't teach you that friendship is hard work. I've "broken up" with a few friends and in some ways it was harder than a romantic breakup, in part because there are no social cues about how to separate form a friend and how to mourn the relationship.

OMG that's my worst nightmare! I've never had a UTI that goes away on its own. As soon as I see the first drops of blood I know it's time for antibiotics.
@Mackenzie the corgi ahaha I laughed out loud. Sounds like something we'd do in my family.
@moonshiner !!! OMG I love this one.
@Mariajoseh oh and I told this one on Twitter but it's so good. When one of my sisters was in like, 1st grade, my other sister (who was in 4th grade) told her that clothes didn't exist in the times of the Spanish conquest, so she drew a bunch of naked people for her history homework with a note explaining that they didn't wear clothes back then. The homework came back with a note from the teacher who was like "They did wear clothes, dear stupid student." I still laugh thinking about that drawing.
We do A LOT of trolling in my family. It probably all started when I was like 4 or 5 (and an only child at the time) and had a stuffed crosseyed fox that scared the shit out of me, so every night I took it outside my bedroom... and my mom put it inside every damn day. I thought she didn't know it scared me but years later she admitted that she was well aware and did it for fun.
@talie hahaha one of my sisters used to do that but with plastic lizards, spiders, etc. We lived with my grandparents and my grandma HATES lizards.
I had lice a few years ago and then again a few months ago. It feels a lot like this-
Ths was so good and inspiring and now I'm hungry.
