Tamora Pierce books pretty much defined my young adulthood, especially the Lioness Quartet. Alanna was and continues to be such a relatable heroine for me. I am convinced that without books like Tamora's, I may not call myself a feminist today. I wrote her a letter when I was 12 or 13, telling her how much I loved her books and that I hoped she'd come speak in Portland. I never got a response and still haven't seen her speak. Actually, I just checked out her website...still no events near me. Damn!
