@ragazza @whizz_dumb I know this is late, but, ooh, talk more about Chicago vs. Bay Area! I made the same westward journey a couple years ago, and I feel like I've been messing up socially ever since, down to grocery-line small talk. Do you really find people very different in the two (clusters of) cities? It'd maybe explain my ineptitude.
P.S. I love both Chicago AND the Bay, still.
@zamboni OHGOD. As someone who has dealt with a similar situation by ripping page after page out of an old, wrinkled, toilet-side issue of Sports Illustrated over the course of a night in a TP-free, dude-filled house, I just...
I've never felt more perfectly womanly than I do right now.
@fabel The Stranger, Caroline B. Cooney? Definitely has that cover, too!
@Ophelia Lunch? I'll take my sandwich... on Ry.
@hands_down Cosigning the points made by @DonovanGentry@twitter. Usually, my looks-based complaints come from the assumption that everyone else in the room has already cringed inwardly at how repulsive I look in a particular photograph. Sooo I suppose I'd rather be merely awful-looking than awful-looking AND clueless?
ETA that all of these feelings are super toxic and shitty to experience and ugh. Hugs of solidarity all around.
@temporal_paradox Also recommending "Paper Bag" by one Fiona A.
@meetapossum Yes. YES. Simpsons for all occasions.
@christonacracker Calling all Oakland lovers/residents/ex-residents! I am moving to Oakland in a few months from Chicago. I've been doing some research, but BF and I are still in great need of housing-related tips. Mainly: which neighborhood??! We are young (recently out of school) and non-rich.
