On What I've Learned From Three Years Without Shampoo

I just reread the original post a couple weeks ago and wanted to try it, but I was waiting until this summer when I am not teaching, so not washing my hair stakes will not be as high. BUT, I am walking part of the Appalachian trail part of this summer. Do you think it is the perfect time to try the 5 weeks/no washing, bc I ALREADY won't be near a shower for 4-5 days at a time, and I will be gross so who cares, or is it the worst time because there will be more sweat and grime and I won't be washing it out??

On 'A Couple Chooses a Movie'

Not a first date, but "The White Ribbon". Yikes. Afterwards we went to a bar and just kind of looked at each other and gritted our teeth. No Haneke on dates!

On L1CENSE PL8

I remember seeing a Hummer with Acclim8 right around the time An Inconvenient Truth came out.

On Paging Clyde Bruckman

@HeyThatsMyBike Yeah, it's a no-win situation with my insurance. Last year I had a veeeeery iffy mole (the doctor was completely unreassuringly concerned about it) removed, and after two dreadful weeks waiting to hear the results of the biopsy the verdict was: no cancer, and since it's NOT cancer, you can pay us several hundred dollars!
I know I need to get checked yearly, but the possiblity of either having cancer or paying hundreds to learn I DON'T have cancer makes it hard to do the responsible thing.

On Two Questions About Dogs: One Nice, One Less So

@HermioneDanger I grew up with a German Shepherd/Lab also! The best dog. He was my mom's buddy when my sister and I moved out. He had this loud, loud, bark and my mom, who likes to be nervous about things, never felt worried about living alone because he sounded so intimidating even though he was so sweet. He was best friends with her cat because they were both orange, but woe to any other cat who came in the yard.

On Ask a Humanities Grad Student

My MFA gave me new questions/directions in my work, a close network of artists, tons of debt, and some adjunct teaching jobs. I wouldn't trade the experience, though it also wasn't a fast track to jobs or fame and fortune. That still depends on how much you hustle. A friend of mine just started a program that is free, and sometimes I kick myself for not going that route, but I did love my program, classmates, and faculty so.... Also, Tatiana Berg, I think I saw your show at Nudashank a couple years ago?
