On Old Loves
This was a beautiful piece.
As a sidenote, Suze Rotolo's memoir A Freewheelin' Time, about her young life, including her time with Bob Dylan, is wonderful. She has since died, which made me very sad, especially after reading her book. I'm glad you mentioned her.
Probably this goes without saying, but DO NOT read the comments to the New York Times. People are saying some truly horrifying things about a woman they do not know. Guess women's bodies are public property...
Thank you, Hairpin and Philomena. This was incredible.
@MaxBraverman I totally watch The Mindy Project for Chris Messina.
Read: "Girly Girl Joins the 'Sesame' Boys"
@Lady Humungus Absolutely! And to LW#4, elopements do not have to just be Vegas or city hall. You can find lovely "elopement packages" in romantic locales. Even the smoothest of weddings is very stressful. It sounds like your family will find excuses to be pissed no matter what, so why not do what makes you happy on your own wedding day?
@SarahP Which I was so glad about. Although I was very confused, then amused when other wedding sites had commenters kvetching repeatedly about their "difficult BMs!"
(BM = bridesmaid, for the uninitiated)
Are these letters to Prudie real? (Dan Savage always says she can never figure out which letters are made up just to get in the column. It sort of seems that way.)
What? No letter to Angela Chase from Jordan Catelano/ Brian Krakow on this list
@SarahP Yes Miss Manners! I love how frequently her advice is that people should mind their own beeswax about other people's personal lives, but she says it in a charmingly witty way.
I specifically remember one reader asking what she should say when introduced to a gay couple and Miss Manners simply replying "How do you do?"
