On Every Meal Almanzo Eats in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy

@anachronistique The Little House cookbook was so sad if you read between the lines! All the good recipes you'd actually want to eat were from Farmer Boy, and everything else was like, "Uh, if you want to eat like Laura after her few years of relative affluence, make this cornbread using just cornmeal and water." This did not stop me from trying apples and onions even though I knew I would hate it, and I did.

On Eleven Days Alone In: Paris

@meetapossum Airbnb is the best! I have used it a ton in a variety of different places and only had great experiences. I am adding my voice to the positive throng just to note that I also totally fell in love with one of my Airbnb hosts (despite him not being present while I was staying there.)

On Photo Etiquette and the Modern Family

LW1, here is a different perspective: my awesome parents have been married for 30 years, and my dad has had depression for longer than that. They love each other and have a couple of ridiculously attractive and talented children, and generally I think they have been happy. But it wasn't till I became an adult ("adult") that I realized how very difficult it has been for my mom, as my dad goes through periods of getting help, help not working, ups and downs etc etc. She is basically the superest super lady, and it's hard for her.

You are SO young, and that's a good thing. If you love this person, you should want him to get help, and try to make him get help as much as any of us can make anyone do anything. But maybe you both could do some growing on your own.
