The discordance was like something out of a novel: by day I made a living teaching English in a tough Bronx school, by night I lay awake, a victim preparing to become a statistic.
Yes, this! Not every night, but I definitely know this feeling. I also keep a stash of things at my bedside. The useful one is my phone. The rest (heavy object, etc) are probably less practical and more like totems of safety, but at least they have worth that way.
A few years ago, after an incident in my apartment building, I became quite anxious about my windows. What eventually calmed me down was to install peel-and-stick alarms, like the safety alarms parents of toddlers put on their windows. Again, they probably have more psychological benefit than practical, but it did make me feel better.
@OhMarie FYI if you haven't seen it already: I just noticed this afternoon there's a $25 for two Kiva gift cards deal on Groupon!
@klemay This. Unfortunately, I also am strangely bad at ironing #foreverrumpled #<3uknits
Also, there is no cure for DECALCOMANIA
It's only a matter of time before the guest soap craft turns up on Pinterest, but our generation will put it in a mason jar.
@cocokins Neat! I'm saving that site because it would be a great idea for a kiddo I know.
@bananapants My parents also made me save up half the cost of Molly. I remember it was $44, because I kept a chart in my room to track my progress. FYI, $44 was a heck of a lot of window washing and furniture dusting in my house, I tell you what.
@JLA I also remember the foot binding story from the first issue!
Much of my AG stuff was from craft fairs, and I used to live for going to fairs with my mom just for the chance to rummage through the tiny racks of clothes.
I bought my first Christmas gift, albeit on-line: some Punjammies for a friend who will appreciate the premise of the company. They had a 25% off deal, so I pounced, only to see that today they have a 40% off deal (D'OH!!!)
I didn't do much deeper research than the company website, so if anyone has anything critical to say about the International Princess Project, I'd be all ears.
@adorable-eggplant Absolutely recommended, and one of the only times you'll see me try to work through my fear of deep-frying! We have them with the main course.
