Holy shit I needed this today! Funniest thing I've read in awhile. I maybe related a little too much.
Giiiiiiirl. THANK YOU. As an older person pursuing their BA in Creative Writing in NYC and constantly fretting over what my future holds - why does it have to be one or the other? Why must we categorize and rank and pick over everything until it means nothing anymore? The worst part about this stuff is that it's insidious. It gets in my head and makes me doubt my choices and chances. But leave it to Jia's "built-in, shock-proof bullshit detector" to set me straight. (Sorry that was Hemingway - ewwww.)
Phhhhewwwwwwwwwwgggglllleeee. That xoJane article made me want to stab myself in the face. And also SO happy that I no longer read that site. WTF is wrong with people??
@Mandolin Right? I thought it was the same piece at first. Kind of odd...
We're going out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving this year, but I'm sort of sad not to be making my favorite cranberry sauce recipe. It's from an ancient issue of Sunset Magazine, and has Earl Grey tea in it! Maybe I'll make it next weekend... it's so, so good.
On "The truth is, the ten or twenty minutes I was somebody’s mother were black magic": Ariel Levy's "Thanksgiving in Mongolia"
@TheBelleWitch Juniper! I read that entire series at work one day and was just weeping at my desk. It is masterfully written.
@j-i-a Gotcha. It's a shame she doesn't have a regular thing going, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for upcoming shows. Thanks!
@supernintendochalmers I wish there was more info on where to catch the show, too. I really want to see it, but internet searches are coming up short. Emma! Jia! Help!
@DullHypothesis Haha, totally. I'm not at all familiar with on-line dating, but some of my friends share the messages they get from guys, and I'm floored by the disgusting disgustingness of some of them. With that in mind, these responses are borderline saintly!
