@TaffetaDarling YESSSS I just started using DevaCurl about a month ago, and it's seriously the best thing that ever happened to my head. I can't even believe my hair can look this good (wow, that sounds like a commercial - i promise it's not). I wish my poor High School Aged self had known about it - it would have saved me from many hours of wrestling with a straightener that pretty much only resulted in a burnt-hair smell and more frizz.

@sony_b I came to comment the same thing. I went through chemo a few years ago, and ended up being bald for almost an entire year. The only time I wore a wig was in the wedding pictures for my best friend's wedding (though I went bald for the reception) and I only wore hats in the winter when my head was cold.
I also felt like people were more comfortable around me when I was straight-up bald. I did what you're suggesting - bold lipstick and big earrings - and it seemed most people who didn't know why I was bald assumed I was bald as a fashion statement! If anyone commented on it, it was always positive.
The few times I tried to wear a scarf I had a lot of strangers approach me and give me unsolicited cancer advice/prayers, none of which happened when I went full-on bald. Go for it! It's also so, so, so much more comfortable (physically, though I understand if it's not comfortable emotionally!)

@rebecca the brave I'm the firstborn in my family (literally, my entire family - I'm the oldest cousin on both sides) and just now realized that I've only ever dated other firstborns. My partner is the oldest in his family and so were both of my college boyfriends.
This is weird, right?
Ugh this is making my heart race. The worst thing that's ever happened to me was my next-door neighbor trying to get into my apartment to sleep on the couch when she left her keys and phone in a cab. It was TERRIFYING especially because she was pounding on the door and jiggling the door knob without saying who it was.
The worst part by far, though, was that I tried calling 911 multiple times while I was barricaded in my bedroom and none of the calls went through. What would have happened if it had been a real break-in instead of a drunk friend?
@coolallison yes. I am totally doing drynuary (starting the second week, when I get back from vacation).
I stopped drinking for a couple months and felt amazing and then started up again at Thanksgiving and have been feeling crappy since then. I don't even drink a ton and it makes a huge difference.
@planforamiracle Thank you!!!! I was so nervous, I almost puked and was bright red the whole time. I also may have rehearsed with a coworker right before I went into my boss' office. I couldn't believe it worked!!
Exciting thing: I worked up the nerve to take some more initiative at work and asked my boss if I could take the lead on research for a new program that I feel passionately about (something she mentioned in passing a few months ago and I hadn't heard any more about since) and SHE SAID YES! And passed over her whole file to me and now I'm in the extreme extreme early stages of research to start an outreach program for art/music therapy at my organization. I'd been looking for a new job but now the prospect of starting a WHOLE NEW PROGRAM is making me rethink that.
@SmartCookie I come from a mole-y people and we have them removed all the time! It makes me feel squicky to think about but is always not at all big deal or painful.
GUYS MY AUCTION MADE ALMOST $10,000 MORE THAN MY BOSS' GOAL!!! It made $2,000 more than my goal (my boss may or may not have NO faith in my ability to do my job). It ended up making about 30% more than they did in 2012 - I started two weeks after it ended last year, so I was especially excited since it was my first year running it!
My coworkers took me out to lunch to celebrate and people kept congratulating me all day - it was the first time in a year I really felt like a useful part of my team! My boss, however, has still not acknowledged to me that the auction happened and keeps trying to give credit to my coworker (he is very kindly and stubbornly continuing to remind her that I did all the work).
I am very proud and very frustrated and trying to focus on the proud part and forget about the frustrated part.
Writing this out is making me feel all warm and excited again!!
2 roughly chopped heads of cauliflower, chopped onion, a couple cloves of garlic, salt, pepper & a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes. 4~ hours on high, 6~ on low (until cauliflower is soft). Serve with salty parmesan cheese, crusty bread and dry white wine! This is what I made for dinner tonight :-)
You can also do it on the stovetop in a big pot & cook for 1~ hour. Sometimes I do 1 cauliflower & potato chunks, sometimes I add red pepper flakes or parm rinds. Its super yummy and really easy to modify...
