On Your Breakfast Has Been Lying to You

@Jinxie Breakfast samosas are amazing! I had an international flight with Air Canada and they mistakenly put me down as a strict vegan instead of a vegetarian. They served me vegan samosas at breakfast and my mouth still waters when I think about them. Actually, everything they served me was great, especially considering their regular omnivore meals didn't look or smell very good.

So, yes, breakfast samosas = tasty!

On Interview with a Person Who Used to Be Paralyzed

O my goodness! As I was reading this, I kept thinking "oh this sounds like my nephew...". My nephew has (had?) POTS starting at age 12 and his symptoms greatly decreased around 16 - 17. He still gets fatigue sometimes but he's a rather active teenager despite all he's gone through. He hiked around Yosemite and the Grand Canyon last summer! It's a frustrating disease and his mom (my SIL) was absolutely amazing - she fought to get him diagnosed and dedicated herself to getting him treated even when his doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong.

I'm so happy you got diagnosed and found a treatment that worked for you!

Editing to add a lil story: Since my nephew was bed-ridden for a majority of puberty, when he finally was able to stand for more than a few seconds, everyone in the family was surprised to see that despite his illness, he ended up being one of the tallest people in the family! I barely reach his shoulders!

On Did We Live Up To Our Yearbook Pages?

In my senior photo, the photo studio Photoshopped my chin mole off without asking me if I even wanted it removed. But the weird thing was that everyone else in my graduating class thought it was a big deal and were way more upset about it than I was. Like, people I barely knew came up to me, all outraged, "They took off your mole!! Why?!". I had no idea my chin mole was so popular.

On How to Remember Father's Day

As someone whose father has had cancer twice (larynx in 2004, prostate in 2011) this hit me right in the gut. He turns 70 this September and I honestly never thought he'd make it that long. I wish you and your father the best and hope you have a wonderful Father's Day.

Yesterday I made my father cupcakes for an early Father's Day gift (chemo gave him SUCH a sweet tooth!) I think I'll go and bake him something else tonight and force them on him tomorrow. I express my love in a tangible sweet baked form. : )

On Call the Dolphin

@packedsuitcase I'm pretty sure I've run into the guy somewhere but all white dudes with dreads start to look alike, honestly.

On Call the Dolphin

@Briony Fields Smelly Cat is a coffee shop in the same area as a vintage store called The Rat's Nest. Yup.

On Call the Dolphin

Ohh noo. Just noooo. Dolphins don't know nothing bout birthin' no babies, y'all.

I live in Charlotte but I don't go to No Da that often (it's the ~artsy~ area that most artists can't afford to live in) but, yeah, I'm not surprised she works at Smelly Cat. Or that it's even called Smelly Cat, really.

On Six Guaranteed Low-Effort Toddler Games

@Julia duMais my dad kind of looks like a mix of Fidel Castro and Joseph Stalin so him chasing me down the hallway probably looked scarier than it really was.

On Six Guaranteed Low-Effort Toddler Games

My favorite game was "Daddy is a monster chasing us down the hall!" which is a pretty straightforward game. My father is deaf and can barely say my name, but he is damn good at making scary monster sounds.

On Six Guaranteed Low-Effort Toddler Games

@gobblegirl I loved doing this too. When I was a little older, roughly 6 to age 9, it evolved into LET' S FREEZE EVERYTHING. I would put various objects, usually toys, into cups of water and then shove them into the freezer because SCIENCE or something like that. My mother drew the line at freezing the cat toys because kitty did not appreciate working for her ice entombed mouse toy.
