For some fantastic Finnish street fashion, I recommend Hel-Looks. Also, the final sequence of the movie Night on Earth takes place in Helsinki, so that's something I generally think of when I think of Finland. Does anyone else know that movie? I feel like whenever I mention it to anyone I get blank stares. It's a really great movie.
@Beatrix Kiddo It's probably just in my head, but I always feel like Jag soothes my stomach if it's a little feeling weird.
@leon s TMI, but just the mention of Starry Night made me puke in my mouth a little. Never again.
Re those candles...It's not too late for Christmas! Tomorrow is Candlemas, and the 40th day of Christmas. So it's OK to still be celebrating Christmas, and tomorrow is the day to bless your candles, so you're all set. My cubicle neighbor is sort of obsessed with obscure and/or ancient holidays and traditions, so we spend a lot of time discussing these things at work.
Oh, and speaking of candles, is anyone familiar with Diamond Candles? I'm kind of obsessed. I gave them to everyone I could think of for Christmas. They're not cheap, but they're so fun.
Also, of course, tomorrow is Groundhog Day. I'm going to celebrate in my traditional manner which is watching the movie Groundhog Day. I love that movie SO MUCH! Ned! Ryerson! Needle Nose Ned, Ned the head...
@Emmanuelle Cunt I once knew someone with the last name Druckenbrod...which is dangerously close to Drunken Broad, so that's fun.
Wonderful article. His artwork is fantastic too!
Aw jeez, I just paid my credit card today, and you had to go and post those damn adorable, cheap elves. So now I've officially made my first Friday Bargain Bin purchase. I bought one of each color. To justify buying them, I also bought a second set to give to a friend for Christmas. So that's good, right? And it's the second Christmas present I took care of today, so I'm on my way to my annual goal of finishing all of my Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving. I'm trying not to freak out about that goal, since Thanksgiving is so early this year, but I think I'll manage. I know if sounds crazy, but I reduces me holiday stress so much if I get the shopping part over early.
Did anyone else notice the "Woman Graffiti Plate" also on sale for $1.95 on CB2? I almost bought that too, but I resisted. I also love the "See Ya Suckahs Rug," but it's $100.
Oh, and I'm not generally a huge Yoplait person (their Greek is AWFUL), but if you want a super high fat, decadent treat, the new Simplait stuff, especially the vanilla, is pretty awesome.
I saw this commercial recently, and while my mind was certainly blown by the "tip it" concept, my greater takeaway was how to correctly pronounce "Fage." At that point I turned to my friend and proclaimed, "huh, so that's how you pronounce that...imma call it Fage (phonetic pronunciation)." She laughed uproariously, but I suppose it's one of those things where you had to be there, because it's difficult to convey in writing. Oh, and for the record, my favorite Greek yogurt WAS honey Oikos, before they changed it. It used to be a chunk of yogurt floating in honey, now it's all blended together, so I'm interested in the Fage, because perhaps it will recapture that magic of separate yogurt and honey.
@StLAmy You are not alone! I had a SERIOUS middle school (late 80's) flashback when I saw that jacket. So see you at bingo in the rec room later?
