I never really drank much soda until I started working in an office with free soda. Then it was a few times a week. Thankfully, my company has started getting LaCroix in a variety of flavors and it is THE BEST. I really just wanted the fizziness of soda water, not all the sugary-ness. Carbonated water + fruit flavor =goodness.
@stuffisthings Even if it is a fraction, it might still be motivation. Though I doubt it since most of Congress makes their money from investments, etc. and doesn't really give a crap about their salary.
@Bebe I really don't understand how they're still getting paid. They seem to be the most non-essential branch of government right now. Plus, maybe they'd get off their asses and do something if their own pay was threatened. If only we could make that a law...
On CHVRCHES' Lauren Mayberry on the Link Between "Casual" Objectification and "Notifications of Impending, Unsolicited Anal"
Mayberry is one very smart lady. She's got both a law and journalism degree, I believe she once mentioned writing about women in media as a thesis. Good on her for speaking out about this. Currently the Guardian's comments are pretty supportive, here's hoping there's more of that.
I wish that trolling were just some sort of internet fad, but something tells me it's going to be around as long as the internet is anonymous. Which isn't to say we should stop the anonymity, but sheesh there has to be some way to deal with all the garbage out there.
@Jinxie Exactly. I'm sure it's well-written and well-acted, but holy crap I had a panic attack during the first episode.
On "Maybe I needed to prove that I'm wife material. If he wanted 300 sandwiches, I’d give him 300 sandwiches"
@annejumps@twitter I hate that every blog these days is created purely for the book/movie deal.
@supernintendochalmers from what I've read on other websites, she didn't actually get paid for her appearance. She got a ton of exposure, but not payment.
avclub article I read, 2nd paragraph says she wasn't paid: http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-nfl-wants-15-million-from-mia-for-flipping-the,103127/
But yeah, agreeing to do it in the first place was kind of stupid.
Don't have time to read the full article until later, but I do have to say that Speak is one of the most moving novels I've ever read. I really think it should be required reading in high school, if only for the discussions it could spark about sexual assault and respect. I am glad it's still around and that Anderson is doing speaking engagements.
Late to the game, but Sabiel and Lirael written by Garth Nix are pretty fabulous YA examples of a man writing women characters. I always thought they were well-rounded, interesting persepectives on what it means to be a girl in her late teens/early 20s. Fantasy fiction for the win.
@Onymous Yeah, I think people are forgetting that Affleck can actually be a good actor, whereas Snyder has never been a good director.
