@rosaline I feel like thriving in the wilds of the late-90s internet gives me the right to have a conversation with google like we're old friends.
steps 33-35 are my favorite. google knows too many of my secrets. :( (see also: http://buttersafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/HourlyComics2.jpg)
I got really excited by the word "feminism" attached to the phrases "critical theorist" and "late-stage capitalism" and but was disappointed to find some pretty old critiques of second wave feminism. Isn't third wave feminism pretty old and out-of-touch at this point? (I am clearly not her target audience.)
@Peltdown Oh I just resent the implication that you're somehow above secretarial work. As a secretary.
@Peltdown "I am a teacher, not a secretary." -_- Hey man maybe you got fired for your shitty attitude.
@Anne Helen Petersen Oh man, can't we see Cixous and Irigaray as both feminists and post-structuralists? My teachers lumped them in together in college but it sounds like yours didn't. I don't know what you mean by the man club (or maybe I can - how Irigaray got in big bad trouble with the man club for critiquing Freud with her philosophy PhD thesis) but now I am curious about actually checking out Kristeva and her way of writing.
There's a documentary (Live Nude Girls Unite!) about the unionization of the Lusty Lady on Netflix as well as a few articles written by Siobhan Brooks, former LL employee and current professor, available online. It sounds like it was a messy, complicated, sometimes fucked up process that's not really repeatable. It's a nice idea though.
"Julia Kristeva, the soul female voice amongst the French Dude Club" Nope. French feminist post-structuralists are my favorite favorite, including Helene Cixous and Luce Irigaray. Not sure how you missed Simone de Beauvoir either. Anyway, glad to see you've come around. Barthes is fantastic.
@LaLoba Was. It folded before the SF shop did. And it wasn't unionized.
