On Semi-Secret Affairs, Smanging, and the 88 Percent
@Kristen Applause! The other thing about hiding your feelings is that it just might work; the dude won't know you care, will assume you don't, and will act accordingly. Save yourself, him, (and the other people you will date/sleep with to prove to yourselves you're blasé about it all) the heartache. Just talk.

@hands_down Yes! Actually, I was wondering where she *lives* that the dating pool is so...cozy.

On On the Happiness of Procreation
@noReally Apparently when I was an infant, my father told my mother, "She doesn't do much, does she?" I always thought that was a kind of funny but pretty juicebox thing to say, although y'all are casting it in a better light.

LW#4: Not wanting to be with a woman because she doesn't have the perfect body is a 100% juicebox move. *Telling* her that *explicitly* is sadistic. Not only is changing yourself to suit him untenable--as many have pointed out--because we all change with time, but I have a hunch that this kind of meanness will escalate.

On A Conversation With Kate Zambreno, Author of Green Girl
@lighter fluid I find it weird how the criticisms directed at The Hairpin seem to focus on the writers being too likable. "If only the internet were nastier and more rabid, and less sensitive and thoughtful."

On Locks, Ships, and the Sexless Non-Marriage
And LW2, If my husband's mistress mailed me a reveal, I wouldn't feel like she was coming clean or allying herself with me. I'd feel like the woman who was privy to my heartbreaking betrayal went out her way to humiliate me personally and directly. And I think I'd be right.

@EddieMcCandry Oh my God. I am so, so sorry. I want to cry just reading that.
(I'm sorry about your situation too, chouxbrunette. I wouldn't fret about your Objectivity Hat, which I don't think you could wear without your Repression Hat Pin...metaphors are hard.)

On Drinking, Pets, and Babies
My mother always told me to be on the look out for how a man treats his mother and how he treats animals.
Waiters might have been in there too.
