On Go!
@the angry little raincloud @WaityKatie @special_boots I taught English in Prague for 2 years and it was awesome. Europe pays less for English teachers than many of the Asian countries (and is generally more expensive) and it can be tough to get a visa. BUT it's probably easier culture shock wise and you should be able to support yourself and travel a bit if you work hard. I saw a lot of Europe while I was there including Cesky Krumlov which is awesome.
Alternately, I have a friend in a similar situation to LW who left for a RTW trip 8 months ago. She's still traveling and makes me jealous every day. Do it!

On Playing House, Cutting Ties, and Being Alone
@km1312 How does one go about getting a Pin-up set up? The last one I went to in NYC was pretty large and it seems you'd have to reserve a space, be super organized about it. Maybe, at least in NYC, there could be an unofficial "I have nothing to do on a Saturday night, any other Pinners want to drink a beer with me" group?

On Playing House, Cutting Ties, and Being Alone
@plonk and @everyone else: Seconding the question - how do you ask someone out for a potential friend date? "Hey, do you want to go for a drink sometime? BTW, I'm not hitting on you." seems kind of awkwardsauce.
Plus, being a joiner - more suggestions please - particularly in NYC. I'm so not sporty (in a serious way, I have bad knees and can't run at all plus have no interest in team sports which seem to bond a lot of people) I've taken some language classes but people seem to be there to learn instead of socialize - bah! Plus, I'm so busy at work it's hard to find time to join a ton of things, so I'd like to get a lot of bang for my buck so to speak.

@WaityKatie After reading this whole thread, I'm convinced you're me 10 years in the future (I'm 25). Can you tell me, is the future awesome?

On Asking for a Raise: A Series of Conversations
I had been struggling with this kind of thing over the past few months. I've moved up at my first job where I've been for several years but because I came in with no experience, I know that I've been constantly underpaid against the new hires who are doing the same job as me (and who I train!) but need to be pulled in by higher salaries. I felt so bad negotiating as well because generally, the company has been good to me, giving me opportunities to advance and shouldn't I be happy to have a job and one that pays me well enough to live in this recession (<-textbook lady bad negotiating.) It's nice to read this and know I'm not the only who struggles with knowing how to do this thing!
Plus I finally I talked to one of my supervisors who went to bat for me and got me roughly on par with my colleagues so there's hope, people, there's hope!

On Graceland Turns Twenty-Five
This album reminds me of driving down to the Jersey Shore as a child, sleeping in the backseat with the windows open. Thank you parents for giving me good taste in music.
Also, at age 7, I had white Keds with little diamond-y gems on the top and I used to tell people I had diamonds on the soles of my shoes. Took me awhile to figure out what soles were, I guess.

On The Best Time I Took My Baby to the Emergency Room
@redheaded&crazie I have to say I love your word choice of "bleeding blood" as opposed to something like fruit juice. It really paints a great picture.
(I just read through this and it might sound sarcastic, but I'm sincere. The word choice made me laugh.)
