On Scandals of Classic Hollywood: The Ecstasy of Hedy Lamarr

I wish all of these came with corresponding make up/hair/styling tutorials.

On Why There's Still No Birth Control Pill for Men

@OhMarie If the risks were increased risk of depression, I guess they could weigh the costs of treatment vs the average costs of child support. A pregnancy doesn't have the same physical risks for a man, but (hopefully!) he'll be responsible for that child in some way.

On Q: Why Does This Grape Tastes Like Cotton Candy? A: Because It Was Genetically Engineered to Taste Like Cotton Candy

@TheLetterL They still have then in my grocery store. I'd never seen them before, and I have to say, I was a little appalled. Like, what's wrong with eating an apple or a grape?

On It's Still Complicated

@lora.bee For the record... you are my hero AND I am really good at my cardinal directions, but I don't hang out with jerks like that. I think he has a sample selection issue.

On American Cosmetic Surgery in Dubai

@frigwiggin I am totally not familiar with these things, but from reading the article, I think it's more about how round the face is -- not necessarily the size, but the proportions. I feel like the preference for a thinner, more oval face is prevalent in the US too.

On American Cosmetic Surgery in Dubai

@Heat Signature Another terrible quote worth highlighting:

"Although we say the Unites States is the most overweight country in the world, it's amazing to see a woman with a beautiful face, with this scarf on and all that, and the body is just terrible because they can be fat," he told me.

On Star Trek Into Darkness: Waiting for Superman

@antarcticastartshere It's on my to do list this weekend - Star Trek II is on netflix streaming!!! BUT I'm glad I didn't do it before I watched the movie because then I could just enjoy the hotness while being ignorant to a lot of the problems :)

On Star Trek Into Darkness: Waiting for Superman

I watched the movie last night with my boyfriend, and I had a related reaction -- I told him I liked it as a fun action movie with inside jokes I got, but not in the same way I loved Star Trek. I grew up with/am still obsessed with TNG and DS9 so I actually didn't know who Khan even was! I never watched the originals, so I think my lack of knowledge on that front allows me to enjoy these movies more.

On Friday Open Thread

@tea for all Do you have some kind of application secret? I tried this and was NOT impressed. I just got the 'clump crusher' one (I think also maybeline?) and it's ok. No clumps and nice length, but lacking in volume.

I used to be obsessed with the falsies flared, but I think they changed the formula :(

On Get This Look: Board Games

I want to recommend "Birth of the Chess Queen: A History" by Marilyn Yalom. I picked it up in one of my I-want-to-be-good-at-chess phases and found it MUCH better than actual chess. It's so great. They have it at the DC public library and it's out in paperback now so it's cheap!!
